I’ve been here a handful of times, and it never disappoints. Today was extra special—we were greeted by historian Anna, who shared the fascinating history of the family and the artifacts in the home. It was such a treat to step back in time and learn about early life and Mexican history in Los Angeles. This place is a hidden gem that brings history to life. They do accept donations, so be sure to contribute to help keep this experience going. Bonus: there are restrooms available as well!

Restored adobe from the early 1800s decorated as it may have been originally. Very interesting window into the old times of LA. We were guided through by Carol, a docent from “las angelitas del pueblo” around the way by the fire station, she’s on her 30th year leading tours!
Avila Adobe is the oldest house in LA! This old house has been restored and maintained to showcase the design with period furnishings! The front of the house may be seen along Olvera Street. Interior and backyard self-guided tours are possible during daytime hours, as well as docent led group tours. Admission is free and donations are acceptable.
