After we had visited Kentucky State Capitol we decided to head to Indiana to see Indiana State Capitol. We arrived after the Capitol was closed so we just walked around the capitol complex. There is a monument for George Washington on the grounds. They are doing work on the road at the front of the capitol so we had to make our way around it. We would love to come back and see the inside. There were 4 statues below the golden eagle on the side of the Capitol.
So far I've visited 10 state capitol buildings, and as far as just the buildings go, this was #2 on my list. Very grand, spacious, interior with impressive decor! The grounds weren't quite as nice or sprawling, but it is downtown Indianapolis. It's worth the stop.
The building is very nice. I was disappointed however, that school groups and regular visitors are grouped together. In fact, after visiting the website for the tour times, we arrived for a tour time but the times changed for the school kids. Its great that they come, but should be separated. There were a couple groups disappointed to learn that time was not happening and had to choose to group up with a large class or not go at all. Staff were knowledgeable and good with the kids. The self-guided tour has very little info and was not very helpful.

What an incredible place to visit! The architecture is just stunning and it s always a learning experience visiting. I have yet to be on an official tour, but visit each year to work as a hostess for the Veterans Legislative Day.
My 1st Statehouse Day. Got to talk to my Representative and ran into some old friends. Also, made a few new business associates. I'm looking forward to the new collaborations.
