My husband booked this hotel as a spontaneous 2 day trip over Christmas. With it being Christmas we literally had the whole hotel to ourselves so they gave us the best room. Check-in was super easy and the 2 staff we encountered were very nice and helpful. We'd love to go back with the family in the summer.
Rooms are dated and have a musty smell. I have been trying to call the hotel to see if they have found my daughter's glasses, but the phone never gets answered. Service is clearly lacking considering I cannot get ahold of anyone. It shouldn't be this difficult to get ahold of a resort. I dont see how anyone could make a reservation over the phone. Would not waste my time staying here again. Especially for the price.
I was pleasantly surprised at first when we walked in. the room was clean, which I appreciated. That said, the rooms are extremely dated, and oddly, there was no microwave or mini-fridge. You have to pay $10 a night to rent one, which feels outdated in itself. those are standard in most places now. What really turned me off was the pool situation. A child had an accident in the pool on our first night. Staff came and scooped it out with a skimmer and brush, but I never saw them use any chemicals or shock treatment afterward. We waited around the pool for hours to see if anyone would return to sanitize it properly, but no one did. There weren’t even clear “closed” signs, just the jets were off. That made me question the cleanliness of all the pools on the property. Lastly, the so-called “private beach” was… not it. There were two large, rotting catfish on the shore when we went, and the smell was horrible. Not exactly the relaxing beach vibe we were hoping for. Overall, this place has potential, but it really needs some updates and better maintenance to be worth the stay.

We feel so lucky to have found this place! My son was having a very small, casual wedding and looking for someplace near water and half-way between all of us since we all live in different states. Ohio was the halfway point, and we feel so blessed to have found South Beach Resort! From the moment we all checked in, the customer service was exemplary. We were all greeted (as we straggled in across the day) by smiles and warm welcomes. The hotel is clean and comfortable. The rooms are a bit dated (hence the 4-star rating) but CLEAN so what more could you ask? I did give a little bit of feedback to the hotel after we left of little things they could do to enhance the room (some new/better pillows would go a long way in the comfort department!), but overall we were very happy. My only disappointment was that I had reserved a queen room with a balcony with a bay view, but we ended up on the first floor with a patio (instead of an upper level with a balcony). At first I was a bit upset about this because I was really looking forward to being able to sit out on the balcony in the mornings and watch the water. That being said, the hotel staff bent over backwards unbeknownst to me that evening to try to shuffle things around to accommodate my wishes. Unfortunately by the time they freed up a room with a view, my family had already settled into the first floor room and would've disowned me if I made them move! lol! So we stayed on the first floor... so a warning if you book that type of room, you might end up with the view we got - a view of the beach volleyball pit and the water view blocked by the fun water pirate ship playground. That being said, we still really enjoyed our stay and it was a short walk out our patio door to one of the several gazebos on the pier to sit and enjoy the water view. But I REALLY appreciate that the staff was kind enough to try to move things around to accommodate me - this meant more than anything to me! My son got married at one of the gazebos, and it was absolutely beautiful backdrop to a wonderful event! Afterward we planned a casual dinner for our family, but it started to rain. Again, the staff came to our rescue and allowed us to move inside to their breakfast area. I am truly overwhelmed with feelings of gratitude to this amazing resort staff. They made the whole experience so much more than it might have been without their kindness! We will be back at some point for a family reunion!
The employees here are very kind, friendly and welcoming. Rooms are clean. If you are traveling with children or if you love fishing/swimming, this is the go to place. The kids pool has multiple water play apparatus the pier/jetty is spacious and many fishers had fresh catches. The beach area is nice it wasn’t crowded when I saw it but I could see if too many families were there it could get crowded. These are the star amenities here. The rooms are standard except no microwave or fridge. And you can hear kids and others through the walls, not a big deal unless you are a light sleeper. The breakfast is continental no restaurant or bar on the property. Not too far a drive from most things on the island.
