I’ve never stayed here, but I frequently stay nearby and visit here often literally just as a way to kill time while on work trips. It’s seemingly a very nice hotel. The casino is quite nice, large, and has every game you’d want or expect to play; including a very nice poker room. It has one of the best food courts I’ve ever seen at a casino, probably the best. Very large, 360° central bar in the heart of the casino. Very nice and large sportsbook area. But the primary drawback is that this place has the worst service I’ve seen in Detroit, which typically has exceptional service and friendly people everywhere you go. Not here. In fact, the security at the entrance of the casino has been openly rude and unwelcoming towards me numerous times. And well, when your entire business model is contingent on convincing people to enter and patronize a place that is inherently designed to just take your money with no return (and in worst case scenarios, catastrophic real-life impacts), the mark of a “good” casino is their service. How much they make you want to enter and how much they make you want to stay, because their only goal is to get you to stay long enough to separate you from your money with nothing in return. So, in summary, this would be a great casino. But, because they have absolutely putrid service, that bumps them from a 5-star casino down to a 2-star casino.
The room was nice and clean and access to the casino was simple. We dined at the restaurant and they were out of both versions of the ribeye. That was a surprise, considering it was Memorial Day weekend. Customer service was mixed. Some people were extremely helpful like the front desk and ballet, but the staff regarding the coffee machine wasn’t very helpful at all. They have a very nice automatic coffee machine in the lobby for the gas and during our visit it was either completely out of milk or the coffee beans were empty. When I mentioned this to staff, they told me that there was coffee in the casino. I didn’t want to do that. The room was very nice. My wife really enjoyed the shower. Nice rooms and easy access to this casino, but the service could use some improvement for the hotel.

When you walk into the room, you feel like you just entered the 70’s and I lived through those years. The staff was very accommodating and most friendly. 1 out 4 elevators working…not good! The bathroom and shower was great, but beware, the shower did not have an anti-scalding and it was more than HOT 🥵
We went last Saturday night for the Terry Fator Show. Before the show we had a great meal at Tap. Service and food was excellent. The show was great! Funny! Amazing! I’d go again to see Terry Fator. The down side was the seating in the room where the show was held. The chairs were pushed together extremely tight. I quickly became friends with the lady sitting next to me. We were hip-to-hip. Every time her husband put his arm around her shoulder he was also on mine. My dear friend on my other side unfortunately was seated to someone who obviously doesn’t wear deodorant. Earlier in the evening as we were enjoying our dinner at Tap we were talking about coming to some upcoming events at MGM. After our show experience we both agreed no more shows at MGM for us. I would not recommend MGM shows to anyone.
What a wonderful girls' staycation at the MGM Grand Detroit! The hotel was beautiful, spotless, and perfectly located for exploring the city. A special thank you to Julie and the front desk team for their warm, friendly service. The bell team, especially Ronald, was cheerful, kind, and incredibly accommodating. Our housekeeper, Ashley, truly went above and beyond, her professionalism, genuine kindness, and ability to anticipate our needs made our stay exceptional. We can't wait to come back to enjoy the spa and all the other five-star amenities. Highly recommend!
