The German Village, just south of downtown Columbus, Ohio, stands as a stunning testament to historic preservation. It was settled in the mid-19th century by a massive wave of German immigrants, becoming a vibrant working-class community defined by its unpretentious, sturdy red-brick homes. Following decline in the mid-20th century, a dedicated local Society began a successful, privately funded restoration campaign in the 1960s, turning it into one of the largest and most successful historic districts in the world. The scenery is beautifully cohesive: narrow, tree-lined streets are paved with original brick, guiding visitors past meticulous gardens and ornate wrought-iron fences. The Italianate and Queen Anne architecture of the homes, along with landmarks like Schiller Park and the iconic Book Loft bookstore, create an atmosphere frozen in time. Walking these charming streets evokes a profound sense of continuity and admiration for the community's dedication. It's a place that feels simultaneously historic and vibrantly alive, reminding the observer of the enduring power of heritage and the human spirit's ability to reclaim and cherish the past, making the Village a truly soulful urban sanctuary.
So adorable! Don’t ask me why I love this so much, but if it is something out of the ordinary, I am there! Stuart Little’s own little home! Doesn’t open, but is a sweet little nod to the famous mouse. Had to take a peek and get a pic! Good for kids and can be seen any time of day!

The Stuart Little house is an adorable sight on the outside of a row house that’ll make you smile! You’ll go ten minutes out of your way… get out of your car to stretch your legs… and it’ll take 3 minutes to see BUT, it’ll make you smile for hours!! As you can see… this is the faux entrance to a mouse house… don’t blink or you’ll miss it!
So cute! Thanks for bringing smiles to your visitors' faces! I accidentally came across this on Google Maps. Good thing there were plenty of street parking when I can stop by for a couple of mins. If you happen to be walking or even driving by, stop for a minute to enjoy Stuart Little's front door and take some pics.
Okay, this was our first time in Columbus and I googled things to do and this popped up in my search and said we had to go see it. Parking is kink of difficult to find but we actually got princess parking across the street from it so it all worked out. Google takes you right to the home with the stewart little door and it is just fun to see and it's free.
