I asked a friend where to dine in the area, and this was his recommendation. He was not wrong! We almost didn’t get in. It was a Tuesday at 5:20 and I was sure we would get a spot, but apparently everyone else knows about this place, and it was fully booked. However, they eeked us into the bar. The staff was so helpful and friendly. We got the salad with all the fresh greens, hazelnuts and blue cheese. The dressing was perfect. We shared a bottle and of wine, they gave a great selection. The bartenders are so knowledgeable and sweet. We also got the fresh catch. Most of the menu is farm to table. They serve you a little amuse bouche, which is a nice touch. The inside is cozy. There are booths and tables and seating at the bar. This is a great spot for a date! The lighting is nice. It’s just a fabulous Portland gem.
I very much enjoyed my meal and our waiter is phenomenal. The menu is a little limited on options but being farmed table is understandable. The food we had was great. Highly recommended the duck. Only suggestions I might add would be to increase the cocktail menu size. I believe there was only six unique drinks. Also, they're probably getting to the point where it might be time for a remodel.

Higgins was a 10/10 experience. My server was Jill - she’s fantastic. Cozy, comfortable setting. Service was great. The chef(s) DID NOT MISS! every single bite was DIVINE. I received an amuse bouche - a delicious hint of spice from the daikons. Followed with cows cheese charcuterie - shout out prairie reserve cheddar! To wash it down, a son of man dry cider. For my entree, a cheesy spring-vegetable risotto with puree, asparagus and crispy leeks. I ate every. Single. Bite. For dessert, I got an almond cake to go - complete with chèvre ice cream and candied cherries. Literal chefs kiss , I will think about this place for years to come!
Amazing restaurant in Downtown Portland! The food was Subaru with professional service and an excellent wine list. Josh, the wine steward, was so knowledgeable and paired the wines perfectly with our meal. I will make a point to visit every time I’m in the area.
When so many restaurants have a limited shelf life, Higgins has become a Portland institution. Without a reservation on "show" night, we were able to grab a table in the dining room. We started by splitting a salad and a side of bread. For entrees, we opted for the two dinner specials of the razor clams and perch. Both were good. In the end we were a bit crunched for time, due to the performance schedule. That said, the server was quick to help us settle our bill and get on our way.
