We came in looking for delicious soul food and boy did we find it. Salmon cakes were incredible as were my shrimp and grits! The catfish was light and flaky and absolutely delicious. Service was quick and kind even though the place was pretty busy at 4 pm and the place is just so cool! Hard to pick a favorite photo or playbill all over the walls!
Mert’s Heart and Soul Restaurant was absolutely amazing! The food was some of the best soul food I’ve ever had. The macaroni and cheese was hands down the best I’ve ever tasted—creamy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The cornbread was to die for and had me wanting more after every bite. The atmosphere was really cool and welcoming. I loved looking at all of the pictures throughout the restaurant, which added so much character and charm to the experience. The service was also very good, with friendly staff who made us feel right at home. It’s easy to see why this restaurant has been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. If you’re looking for delicious comfort food and a great dining experience, Mert’s Heart and Soul is definitely worth a visit. I can’t wait to go back

We found this restaurant through Google and decided to give it a try. It’s a local Southern soul food restaurant with a unique character and charm. The ribs and catfish were delicious and full of flavor. The fried chicken was a little disappointing compared to the other dishes, but overall the food was very good. The restaurant’s décor is unique and creates a nostalgic atmosphere with a classic old-fashioned Southern vibe.
I thought it was extremely kind and hospitable of them to let us in and welcome us even though we showed up late, only 30 min before their closing time. We were taken care of by someone named Deandre, and another person named Zohran also helped where he could. Lovely atmosphere, great food. Love the interior. Definitely hoping to go back.
The go to place to sit in the cool air conditioning for some southern comfort dishes in the business district. Most of the delectable food is available for take out. The staff greets everyone warmly and even delivery folks stay a beat to return the gesture. The service was attentive (without smothering) unlike the pork chop special with three sides for under $15! Daris moved around the restaurant with water, the menu specials memorized and excellent recommendations. The kitchen turns out these slow cooked home styled favorites quickly. An impressive row of cakes sit under glass domes along the counter. Pictures of famous guests, and the Merts "family" cover the walls as part of the homey vibe. Friendly and informal. Great value and even better taste. It's wonderful that this business survived the pandemic to keep providing much needed hospitality.
