I am so happy I took my outback here. I had first taken it into the dealership and of course they wanted a arm and a leg for the repairs so I took it to Japanese Auto Repair as my partner took his Subaru in for some minor repairs a while back. The shop was able to take my car in the next day, do an inspection and get back to me by the end of the business day, I felt that was fantastic. They were honest about repairs, cost. and turn around time with my car. Since there where bunch of things I needed done they did inform me that they needed to order some of the parts and during this process they were great on calling and giving me updates. At no point I felt pressured and not valued through any of the associates I talked to at the shop and that meant a lot to me. They were able to get my car back within the requested time, were friendly from start to finish, pricing for all the work I had done was more than fair and I just really appreciated being treated as a person. Honestly if you are looking for a great shop to take your car I would take it here.
Don’t bring your car here if you care about it. A few days ago, after seeing their ratings, some great reviews, and speaking with them, I had my 2021 Subaru Crosstrek towed to their shop, I told them the oil light came on, the oil dipstick had the oil level 2-3 times the full level, and the oil smelled like gasoline. I also told them my mechanic brother thought it was due to the high pressure fuel pump leaking into the crankcase. There is a published fuel injector/fuel system TSB bulletin on the 2021 Crosstrek they could have found if they looked. Instead, they had my car 24 hours, said there was nothing wrong with it, refused to even do an oil change, said I could take it someplace else for a second opinion, and charged me $105. I begged them to please look into it before releasing it and advising me to drive it and they kept assuring me it was perfectly fine. Against my better judgement I listened to them and drove it 2 hours home. The next day it wouldn’t accelerate, with racing rpms, then when I checked it had the super high oil level that smells like gasoline. They may have caused further damage to my $20,000 vehicle by not properly investigating, diagnosing, and advising as any legitimate mechanic would do. I will find out the extent of the problem when I have it towed to my mechanic here tomorrow. ‼️**UPDATE: My Crosstrek’s high pressure fuel pump needed a full replacement as it was leaking fuel. D & B Bear Service in Corvallis took their time doing a thorough diagnostic evaluation, found that there was a clear fuel leak and did a great job replacing the pump and ensuring that my car was good to go. I am thoroughly disappointed in Japanese Auto Repair. They have been non responsive. Their made a HUGE mistake with my car and have accepted no accountability. I had to pay $100 to rush up and get my car from them (since they insisted I pick it up and refused to work on it because “nothing’s wrong with it”) and subsequently had to wait until the local shop here could get it in, rent a car the whole time… very expensive. All because they couldn’t manage to believe that I knew how to check oil and smell fuel, and they couldn’t bother to take the time to diagnose it and fix it. What else is a mechanic for? Why the glowing ratings here? Beware.

We were having trouble with our Toyota Sienna while passing through Portland on a road trip. The staff at Japanese Auto Repair was able to quickly diagnose the problem and fix it the same day. The price was very reasonable too! This is the place to go!
Great Service. Great transparency I've been to this repair place for years and have NEVER been steered wrong. As a woman, it's easy to be manipulated and scared. These guys never do that (though the dealership does it all the time). They are direct, clear, patient and smart. I would recommend them every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
Such a great shop. Everyone is super helpful, quick, and happy to explain the process in an understandable way. They had my car ready in just a few hours even when I said there was no rush. I highly recommend them!
