Somewhat of a hidden gem. Very knowledgeable staff and historic tours of the beautiful house of Ima Hogg. Look forward to returning in the spring for the azaleas in the gardens. Ima Hogg’s Legacy (Source: Museum of Fine Art Houston) “Ima Hogg (1882–1975) devoted her life to Houston’s early civic, educational, and cultural institutions. She was also an astute and ambitious collector, determined to assemble the finest examples of American decorative and fine arts spanning the period 1620 to 1870. In 1957, she donated her collection as well as her house and gardens to the MFAH. Bayou Bend opened to the public in 1966 and quickly established itself as a leading museum of American material culture. Today, nearly 2,600 objects installed in 28 period room settings showcase the evolution of American art and design from the Colonial through the Victorian eras, including furnishings, paintings, silver, ceramics, and glass. Outside, visitors stroll through surrounding woodlands and a series of gracious and beautiful gardens intended as outdoor rooms for living and entertaining, not just views to be admired from within the house.”
We visit the Christmas Village here at Bayou Bend Gardens every Christmas and it is absolutely STUNNING and so fun! Lots of activities for the kids & included in your ticket is the house tour! Do not skip the house tour! It’s our favorite part. It’s maybe 10-15 minutes, perfect for kids and there are real actors and it’s Santa themed! They even have a whole room filled with elves! My kids also love the faux snow tubing and the faux snowball fight area. Food & drinks this year are by Landry’s Grotto! 10/10 recommend the tamales, the charcuterie board and the hot cocoa! I know there are a lot of Christmas option in our area but this is one of my top recommendations. It’s classic Christmas vibes. It’s the perfect size, not too big, not too small. If you haven’t been yet, trust me you need to go. You will love it. @thathoustonmom

This place was amazing. If your interested in sweeping gardens, art and Texas history in the middle of Houston this place is a must! We didn't the garden and House tour! The tour guide was the sweetest little lady. I am sad I don't recall her name. My friend and I just had the best time with her. She was so knowledgeable and kind! We will definitely be back when the azaleas bloom!
Went in November and really enjoyed checking it out for the first time. The staff was very friendly, welcoming, and informative. We went early on a cold Sunday so it wasn't busy and it was nice to enjoy it without it being crowded. We prepurchased the tickets and had an easy time parking and checking in. I look forward to checking out the Christmas Village in the future!
First class program! Reasonably priced! Festive! Family togetherness! Holiday time! Great venue for picture taking! The grounds were spectacularly well-lit as was the mansion. The Christmas program is wonderful but perhaps tilted slightly towards families with younger children, say five to ten years of age. However, there was something for everyone though. In our case, we had fun sledding while spending holiday time together. The suspension bridge was very cool. My wife and daughter visited the gift shop where they found reasonably priced items. Family togetherness is important. Afterwards we gathered under the tent having cups of hot chocolate, planning next steps, while watching a traditional train make its way around the tracks. It fondly reminded me of my great-uncles train set collection which he setup each Christmas under the tree, decades ago, but never forgotten. Fun! Ours is a five years membership with the Houston Museum Fine Arts, and this was our first visit to the Bayou Bend Christmas program held at the Gardens. We plan to return next year! I must add that we very much value and enjoy our HMFA membership!
