I love Bayou Bend. The last event I attended was a July 4th celebration. It features the Ima Hogg residence and gardens. We were able to tour the first floor. You can go upstairs on a regular day. The gardens are beautiful and have many walking trails throughout. They have a gift shop on site as well. There are shady places along the trails to sit on a bench if you need to take a short rest. Past the beautiful lawn fountain, a cable bridge connects the property to a parking lot. Admission is free the third Sunday of each month for Lone Star card holders, children under 9 and possibly museum members. Otherwise it costs $7.50 for gardens and $12.50 for house and gardens for adults. I highly recommend this wonderful treasure!!
I recently did a photoshoot with a friend at the Bayou Bend Gardens and we had such a lovely time! I was surprised that they didn't require a permit to shoot there, we just had to pay the price of admission and we even got lockers to put our stuff in for free! Such a hidden gem, will definitely be coming back soon.

Absolutely beautiful experience. The gardens are peaceful, well-maintained, and perfect for a relaxing day or a romantic outing. Every area feels intentional and serene, with so many picture-worthy spots. The home itself is stunning and rich with history, and the overall atmosphere makes you feel like you’ve stepped into something truly special. It wasn’t overly crowded, and everything was easy to navigate. Perfect for a date, self-care day, or even just a quiet reset from a busy schedule. I’ll definitely be back.
Somewhat of a hidden gem. Very knowledgeable staff and historic tours of the beautiful house of Ima Hogg. Look forward to returning in the spring for the azaleas in the gardens. Ima Hogg’s Legacy (Source: Museum of Fine Art Houston) “Ima Hogg (1882–1975) devoted her life to Houston’s early civic, educational, and cultural institutions. She was also an astute and ambitious collector, determined to assemble the finest examples of American decorative and fine arts spanning the period 1620 to 1870. In 1957, she donated her collection as well as her house and gardens to the MFAH. Bayou Bend opened to the public in 1966 and quickly established itself as a leading museum of American material culture. Today, nearly 2,600 objects installed in 28 period room settings showcase the evolution of American art and design from the Colonial through the Victorian eras, including furnishings, paintings, silver, ceramics, and glass. Outside, visitors stroll through surrounding woodlands and a series of gracious and beautiful gardens intended as outdoor rooms for living and entertaining, not just views to be admired from within the house.”
A well curated collection of pieces and beautifully maintained gardens. I learned a lot about American history and its lesser known change makers as well as about Houston. I look forward to visiting again for events in the gardens.
