For the past four years myself and a group of my friends all attend Anthrocon in Pittsburgh. Each year we have a nice fancy dinner to celebrate the entire trip and we decided to choose Alta Via for our dinner this time around! One of my friends used a wheelchair through this trip, and the staff were so accommodating to her handicap. Our server moved one of the chairs for our table before she arrived so she could have a spot at the table with us. I loved the overall atmosphere as well! Rustic colors and soft toned lights really gave the place an intimate feeling without being pretentious. For the food, our server gave wonderful recommendations for myself and my guests. We all absolutely loved the food! I got the Mafaldine pasta and absolutely loved it. Ive never been a big fan of mushrooms but they really knocked this one out of the park. My partner got Pappardelle and he absolutely loved it as well. I tried it and i had to agree that it was really really good. The prices were very reasonable as well! Especially for how much food you got with your dish. For 16 dollars the serving I got was more than enough to fill me up for the night. If you're in Pittsburgh for an event and want to end off your trip on a high note, eat here. You wont regret it.
Outstanding meal this evening. Helpful, attentive service from Amanda and good recommendations in regards to good selections and portions. Italian wedding soup was fabulous, short rib on pappardle pasta was great, halibut with capers was excellent. Chocolate torte was tasty as well. And Valpolicella Superiore selection was nice. All in all great evening.

Incredible pasta spot in Pittsburgh! Pastas are creatively unique, being served in both full and half sizes, allowing for ability to share multiple types across the table. Dessert menu and plenty of apps/bread as well. Decorated and clean interior and kind staff. Set in a nice, walkable area, Alta Via is an excellent choice for dinner.
This is a fantastic Italian restaurant. The house made pasta was cooked to perfection. The vodka sauce reminds me of NJ Italian dinners from ears ago and the tiramisu was one of the top 3 I have ever had! One word... phenomenal.
I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was too disappointing not to share. We came in for a work lunch and placed our order around 12:15 p.m. Three of us each ordered a half portion of pasta. We were repeatedly told our food would be out “shortly” or “in two minutes,” yet we waited nearly 50 minutes with no real update. By the time our food finally arrived at around 1:10, we had to ask for it to be boxed because we had a meeting to be back for. To make matters worse, the already small half portions were taken back into the kitchen and split into tiny to-go containers. There was never an apology or acknowledgment of the excessive delay. The server simply returned with the containers and let us know the meal had been comped. I appreciate that they covered the cost, but an apology and honest communication would have gone a long way. The pasta itself was actually very good—which somehow made it even more disappointing lol. After waiting over an hour, I left with what felt like a sample of pasta and am still hungry as I write this review. Unfortunately, good food isn’t enough to make up for service like this, and I won’t be returning.
