We had an excellent stay from start to finish. The front desk helped get us a high floor room with a great view, the hotel and rooms are very clean and beds were very comfortable. I had a pedicure at the spa that was great with great conversation with the tech. It was my birthday and the hotel sent up a complimentary bottle of champagne and dessert, the lounge made excellent cocktails and we are very picky with our margaritas , valet was quick and friendly and the location is awesome. Couldn’t have had a better stay!
We had a deeply disappointing experience at the Fairmont in Pittsburgh. First the room prices are ridiculously high. For us, the stay was for a special occassion, and we thought we would have a wonderful experience. However, that did not happen. Instead, we encountered an unwelcoming staff, and our room was not ready at check-in (and wouldn't be for nearly 2 hours). They just asked us to wait in the nearby chairs. It felt more like checking into a dentist appointment than into a luxury hotel. There was no apology or attempt to make it right. Instead, they took a rigid corporate stance basically saying "too bad, you are out of luck." Their total lack of hospitality was surprising. Ultimately we left and immediately called our credit card company for a refund. I can NOT RECOMMEND the Fairmont. If you are looking for a hotel there are many in Pittsburgh with stellar rooms and very friendly staff - such as The Industrialist Hotel, just a few blocks away.

I really didn’t care for my stay. I kept seeing this hotel being associated with the word “luxury” but this wasn’t a luxury hotel. I can tell that when this hotel was first built it was probably very nice but luxury isn’t the word I would use to describe it. I would consider it a 3-star hotel. I specifically looked for and wanted a 4-star hotel. What I expect with a 4-star hotel are clean and modern rooms/rooms that are a little above average. The bathroom was dim/had poor lighting. The toilet was separated from the vanity and shower area by a half wall and the lighting for that area was even more dim. There were pee stains on the wall (it looked like pee that splatters everywhere when a man uses the bathroom). The tub had stains in it. The shower had stains in it. These are stains that looked like they could have been cleaned but just hadn’t been. There were signs of wear all over the room. You could see it on the beds, the desk area, and on the walls of the room. Overall, I was fine sleeping there but I didn’t pay for a 3-star experience. I paid for a 4-star experience and that’s not what I felt. I would never book this hotel again if I was wanting a 4-star experience. I could have gone to the Drury inn for this same experience and could have paid less money. I do love the view in the room (that’s really the only thing I liked). I will say that overall my stay was ok but I felt very mislead. We even had housekeeping knock on our door at like 6 in the evening and they acted as if they were startled that someone was in the room. I was told by the front desk that they do this to see if lights need to be turned off for the evening but in my experience, hotels only do that for unoccupied rooms. I feel that our room wasn’t properly cared for before our stay and I won’t be coming back unless their rooms are all completely updated and properly cleaned. This is not a 4-star hotel anymore.
This didn't feel like a Fairmont… take away the branded Fairmont items in the room and this could've been any other hotel. Nothing set it apart, and the hotel had no personality. The room was a good size for the location, with a large bathroom. The bath towels were decent sized, and there was a separate shower and tub. We thought the beds were terrible… very firm. Our room had floor to ceiling windows with a great view of the river and PNC park (from an angle). There was a safe in the closet of the room and shelves to place your belongings on. They only gave us two hangers in the closet which doesn't really help with hanging our clothes. Nothing in the room was overly comfortable, there was only one chair located at the desk in our double queen bed room. It would've been nice to have additional seating, even one additional chair so we could have used the desk as a dining table. There was no desk lamp on the desk and the only light in the room was above/between the beds, so half the room was dim no matter how many lights were turned on. Hotel is in a great location with plenty to do in the surrounding area. There was a mini fridge in the room which was appreciated. Parking at the hotel was expensive, but we found a lot (the Ft. Duquesne and Sixth Street Garage) a couple of blocks away for a fraction of the cost. Overall I expected more from a stay at Fairmont and wish we had stayed at the Kimpton nearby instead.
This Fairmont is one of the nicest hotels in downtown Pittsburgh. The hotel is not only beautiful but the location is fantastic as this property is close to lots of shops, restaurants, and is a short walk to PNC Park. We had a spectacular view of the ballpark from our room and I'll add that the service has been excellent all the way around here as well. We would definitely stay at this property again!
