My husband and I chose this charming boutique hotel for a special staycation to celebrate our third wedding anniversary using our Amex credit card benefits. The photos don't quite do justice to its charm, as the hotel was thoughtfully designed with such attention to detail. The staff's exceptional training and warm hospitality truly stood out. During our stay, the general manager went above and beyond to assist us with our recent move from Chicago and shared valuable insights about Uptown and its attractions. Honestly, the hotel exceeded our expectations, and I’m already eager to return. One thing I think could make it even better is adding a pool or spa to the amenities. While the decor and bar are lovely, an extra outdoor option would elevate the experience. Despite that, it remains a fantastic hotel, and if I need to stay nearby again, I wouldn’t hesitate to choose it. A spa with a pool would truly elevate the luxury vibe.
This hotel is absolutely breathtaking. Our room was beautiful. I loved this elegant hotel with great location right in the heart of downtown. The only complaint I have is the room service food with “Sophia’s Lounge”. Menu looked great. I know that this is a higher end hotel and higher end restaurant so of course portion sizes will be smaller, even with an appetizer. However, I was disappointed with the crab cakes I received. They were the size of 4 small McNuggets and on the flavor scale…a 6/10. My friend got the scallops and pork belly. She said the scallops were okay and pork belly was eh. That’s the only complaint I have. We then proceeded to order chicken tenders, those were probably the worst chicken tenders of my life. I would 100% come back, but not eat at Sophia’s.

Stayed at the Ivey's for a night for a nearby concert, first off, great location with multiple restaurants and bars as well as the Spectrum Center within walking distance. Upon check-in, the Valet was kind to come to my car in the pouring rain to help start the check-in process. Offered to help with luggage and even asked if he could charge my Tesla for me in the garage. At check in, the staff was quick to process the check in and give information. Booking this reservation through American Express Fine Hotels program, I was informed of the credits we would receive. However, to my dismay, breakfast was not included in full, as only a $30 credit per person is provided, which is not how the Fine Hotels program works. While we did also receive a $100 credit for on-site expenses, the Valet fee of $50 is not eligible. To boot, even though it was a Sunday night, there were apparently no rooms available for us to have a complimentary upgrade, which is also advertised in the Fine Hotel's program. Lastly, the elevator was broken and unusable. While we only had to walk to the 2nd floor, stairs with luggage was not convenient. The staff kindly did assist with bringing the heavier bags up to our room about 30 minutes later. Impressed by the decor in the hall and the pleasant aroma, we reach our room all the way at the end. The room is furnished beautifully with incredible art of Paris, Hermès and watches. The bedding was lush and comfortable as well as the 3 large brick-adorned windows facing the street. While a "City-view" was what we booked, it was more of a street view as we were only on the 2nd floor. Coming into the bathroom, the tub stopper was not in place, fully pulled and sitting on the counter. Not sure how it happened or why it was left for us to find, but a call to the front desk quickly fixed the issue for my wife to use the bathtub later. Overall, the Loccitane amenities were incredible and a very nice touch. Heading to the onsite Sophia's lounge/restaurant onsite, we had a decent experience with a free glass of champagne during happy hour. We decided instead of going to dinner elsewhere, to just enjoy onsite as the decor and atmosphere was comforting and inviting. Upon receiving our food, for the price, the portions were very small and overall the food was okay. Nothing outstanding. Drinks, while also pricey, were standard. Service was decent, at times a bit slow to come back around. Overall, only enjoyed it as we had to use our $100 credit, but otherwise would not return for dinner at least, maybe just drinks. Coming back to our room after the concert, there was no turn down service as we were told there would be. After a shower and laying in bed, the noise from the neighboring bars was loud with bass penetrating the room until 3am. If you are noise sensitive, would definitely recommend staying in an interior room. The A/C was excellent however and consistently helped with a good night sleep in a very comfortable bed. Waking the next morning to our room service breakfast was great. Served on a silver platter with all that we ordered accurately. To my surprise however, a 24% automatic service charge was added to the bill. In addition, an extra tip line on the bill was requested. Negating our $60 breakfast credit quickly for basic items. In room coffee was nice with a Nespresso. Would not touch the in room bar items however, as prices are extraordinarily expensive, also with an additional 24% service charge. Staying for the day until our guaranteed 4pm check out, we enjoyed the room, and Charlotte. Upon returning that afternoon, our room key was disabled. Requiring a jaunt down the long hall, down the stairs to the front desk to get it fixed. Quickly resolved once arriving by the front desk staff. The remainder of our short stay at the Ivey's was fine, and the valet again upon check out was exceptional, with my Tesla card ready to go and out front without even requesting it, fully charged. 10/10 for the valet. 7.5/10 for the Ivey's. Using our Amex credits, it was worth it, but at full price, not sure I can recommend.
I hate to give The Ivey’s a bad review because I stayed here on another occasion and loved it. Unfortunately, they earned this downgrade. The service during our one night staycation was absolutely abysmal. To begin, we asked the front desk if the alcohol could be removed from our mini bar and wet bar. I think her exact words were, “I’ll have to see if that’s something we can do.” I informed her it was imperative. The following run around of calls down to the front desk, transfers to in-room dining, being ignored, and more calls (we were being very patient) was kind of ridiculous. When two people finally showed up to remove the alcohol, they were very very kind. Later after dinner when we returned to our room, we tried calling the front desk SEVERAL times to be transferred so that we could order a few bottles of water. Despite having seen the employee sitting at the desk only minutes earlier, she never answered and we never received water. The next morning, we asked for a late check out, and were given a short “that can’t be accommodated today” with no explanation. Mind you the hotel seemed rather sparsely filled (we had seen one other guest the entire stay.) I don’t think I have ever been turned down a late check out in a 4+ star hotel. The $30 “cappuccinos” we ordered to the room were watery lattes at best. Finally, at 11:02 as we were literally approaching our door to leave our room, the doorbell rang. It was a lady with a clipboard essentially hurrying us out. She proceeded down the hall to do the same to another room. We have stayed in MANY four and five star accommodations around the country and world and have NEVER. Not even in a bustling Hampton Inn, been “kicked out” of a room at check-out. We asked another employee upon exiting if they had a lot of arrivals that day, and they were like, “meh… not really”. This hotel needs a refresher course on what hospitality means. These prices do not reflect our experience. The elevator was also out of service. And according to previous reviews, it had been out of service for months. The rooms however, are stunning.
Cons: 1. Elevator was not working 2. Incorrect or misleading explanation of charges and credit balances(credit card benefit) 3. Room facing downtown nightclub with loud noise all night 4. Combining some charges for 2 separate bookings while requiring a re-check-in 5. Tv was low resolution and did not have airplay. Only HDMI connectivity 6. Breakfast on the 2nd morning was extremely limited selection due to them “not having a chef” that morning (This was Sunday) Pros: 1. Polite staff willing to help 2. Rooms themselves were great 3. Hotel location is good, downtown Charlotte is great and close to most things 4. Cocktail lounge is great 5. Library is a unique benefit 6. Valet parking had EV charging included I will update the review if we are able to work with the hotel on the charges and credits portion.
