This is one of the most tasteful, gorgeous, and simply elegant hotels I’ve ever stayed in. The rooms were clean, ceilings high, and extraordinarily comfortable. They kept the integrity of the interior from back when the building was the Detroit firehouse headquarters which I absolutely adored. The staff and service was wonderful. Everyone from the valet attendants, to the front desk associates, to room service was such a delight. I was so pleased at how kind everyone was, especially considering how I stayed here on my wedding weekend and was being a needy little bride. It was such a pleasure to wake up in the morning and eat downstairs in the iconic Apparatus Room as well. The interior is a piece of art and the food of course was amazing. I’m a lifelong Detroiter and often overlook some of the things that have come up downtown in the past ten years. My experience in this hotel on my wedding weekend will stay with me forever, and I’m looking forward to spending and celebrating anniversaries here in the future. Thank you so much to the staff for making my experience so dreamy and memorable. ♥️
The pictures of the king rooms do not do this place justice, the rooms are much bigger and nicer in real life in this beautiful renovation of an old firehouse. It's pricey but my booking came with $30 credit toward food and their hotel restaurant is nicer than a normal hotel restaurant - the Apparatus Room was lovely on a Friday night, especially the pork belly appetizer and homemade sourdough bread. Fresh free coffee in the lobby early in the AM. I look forward to returning.

I rarely write reviews unless I'm impressed. Having traveled to Detroit off and on since 97, it has transformed. Detroit used to be where you drove through to get to the job. My last two trips have have changed my opinion. Twice now I have had an excellent experience. Detroit Foundation Hotel was a huge part of it. The rooms were spacious and modern, but with a classic historic bend. Hotel made in a restored firehouse, cool! Carry the industrial theme through the hotel, baller. The bar and restaurant was lively with a welcoming staff. The food was excellent. Detroit is back, represent!
The hotel is quiet, and the beds are comfortable, which made for a decent stay. However, this is not a 4 star hotel by any means. Adding a suitcase holder in the rooms and offering at least a courtesy bottle of water would be simple improvements that make a difference. Also, the shower gel needs to be changed it has an unpleasant smell.
1 night staycation. Standard King Room. Pros: Clean; excellent shower [loved the scent of the shower gel]; modern/unique decorations with local books like Detroit Graffiti; stocked mini bar in room with drinks/snacks [for $]; large/easy to use TV; we stayed on a Thursday night and it was very quiet for sleeping. The Apparatus Room is a great restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and is right in the hotel. Highly recommend. Big pro here. Offers valet. Cons: The bed and pillows were NOT uncomfortable, however there is another downtown hotel that we stay at and we personally prefer the bed/pillows there, as well their rooms are slightly larger there.
