We have used Neil Kelly’s handyman services several times and have always been pleased with the results. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly, and the work is first-rate. They’re not cheap, but the quality is worth it. To amplify the above brief comments, which were describing a relatively small recent job, I’ll add a longer response regarding a much larger job Neil Kelly completed for us several months ago. Our house in Lake Oswego was heavily damaged by burst pipes following a deep freeze, ice storm and power outage in January 2024. There were apparently 40,000 insurance claims from this series of events in Metro Portland. Neil Kelly was not taking on repair jobs from this storm because of the difficulty of managing insurance-funded projects. However, because they had done several earlier tasks for us, including a seismic retrofit and an energy efficiency upgrade, they were willing to help us out. The amount of work was immense and the challenges of dealing with our insurance company were incredible. Neil Kelly staff helped us in every way—assess the damage; figure out what could be salvaged (not much) and what needed to be replaced; negotiate with the 11 different insurance claims adjusters we were assigned; show us all the options for each portion of the job; manage all the subcontracts and sub-contractors; give us weekly updates; and follow up afterwards. It wasn’t perfect—communication at times was difficult, as some of the design contractors were stretched too thin because of the number of simultaneous jobs across the region. But given how extensive and complex the whole operation was ($600K total claim), and how beautiful the results turned out, we have no complaints. Neil Kelly staff turned one of our family’s most traumatic events into a lesson in resilience and partnership. We highly recommend them for jobs small and large. (The photos below show some of the totally rebuilt rooms, after and before repair.)

We could not recommend Neil Kelly more. They helped us restore my childhood home, which needed quite a bit of love. Cal, Wes, and Leda were responsive, kind, efficient, and extremely professional. They listened to all our requests and helped us bring life back into our 1920's Tudor home, all while preserving the character and charm. Their trade partners were phenomenal and the work was finished on schedule! 10/10 experience!
We had pool solar heating panels installed by Neil Kelly. They were problematic from the beginning. One, they didn't work. The water coming out was only a few degrees warmer than the input water. There were multiple leaks in the system when we first turned it on, so we were instructed us to turn it on only half power (rather than Neil Kelly replacing the faulty two panels). The water was not heating and most of our pool was leaking out of the panels with leaks. NK told us that it was necessary to replace all of our underground pipe with larger diameter pipe. Finally, my husband, a nuclear engineer, calculated the flow rate and figured out the pressure was too high to heat the water. He also got up on the roof and plugged the leaks. Those fixes helped us get more heating out of the system. Neil Kelly never came back to help. Seven years later, the leaks were so severe that the panels could not be fixed any longer. Our contract has a 12 year warranty on the panels, but I have never been able to get help despite multiple calls and emails. I was only offered the option of paying for repairs. Additionally, there was a huge algae bloom in our pool when we first turned the system on. Our contractor thought it got gunked up because it wasn’t flushed before turning on. Overall, a very disappointing experience.
I always say you get what you pay for and I believe that Neil Kelly is reasonably priced for all that you get! We have been through a few contractors working on our home but Neil Kelly tops them all! From design to the finished project and beyond, as they have an amazing warranty. They listen to what you want, and design accordingly, treat your home like their home, respect you and the space they are working in, have knowledgeable trades they sub out to, great contractors that work for them and leads who work on your job to keep everything moving along. They communicate effectively and are always a phone call, text or email away for any questions or concerns. Would I hire them again, YES! Would I highly recommend them to others, YES!
Neil Kelly is a spectacular company to work with! They torn down then put in a brand new kitchen that is worthy of a high-end magazine. I have to list my HUGE KUDOS to the whole team: Erika Altenhofen, my designer extraordinaire who not only listened to my vision, was extremely professional, yet personable, and a very talented designer. So much fun to work with! Brian Silver, my project manager, whom I was very lucky to drive the amazing team, keep everything on schedule, check up on our progress, make corrections where needed, and finish EARLY! Vladimer and Nadia, who not only did all the difficult demo but installed all the beautiful cabinets and made sure everything was done to perfection. And they kept everything clean and in order. Steve, Wade and Fuzz who did lots of carpentry and finishing work and seamlessly picked up the baton and ran with it. All the subs that they hired - the painters and floor installers - were top notch and so very professional. The Neil Kelly team was such a great choice and I did not have to manage anything, which is what I wanted. You get what you pay for and I highly recommend everyone to consider them as they are worth every penny. I'm sure I'll do another project with them - bathroom and solar. Thank you!
