My sister and I stayed here for a vacation in October. What a wonderful experience-we would highly recommend the Sun & Cricket. It was a beautiful setting-quiet, plenty of space to walk and a gorgeous view. The Log Cabin was delightful-lovely furnishings and everything we needed to be comfortable. We visited sites in Pittsburgh, and the drive into the city was very easy. We also spent time closer to the B&B and explored antique shops and local shops. There were plenty of restaurants within easy driving distance. What really completed the stay were the hosts-they were so friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were delicious-really a treat. We could not have picked a more relaxing and lovely spot and hope to visit again.
We have travelled and stayed at many B&B’s all over the east coast. However this is not one that we would revisit. We had a wonderful, relaxing weekend in a Beautiful location. It was nice to have access to the pool. Excellent breakfast. Husband was very nice during our stay and respectful of our privacy. Room was very clean and was cleaned the second day with fresh towels and bed linens which was much appreciated while we were poolside. Limited space to park in the driveway due to owners car taking up A large portion of the parking pad. When we asked if her car could be moved over, she said “I was not aware that you were bringing two cars” and did not move her car. We felt as though we were under surveillance the entire weekend by wife from the time we arrived until we left, including constant work on the lovely flower garden directly outside of our window. Within two minutes of going to pool, she came into the cabin to get an ashtray for the cigar. Too many personal questions while she was trying to be accommodating, but it came across as pushy. Too much information and rules about what to do and more about what NOT to do when we first arrived. No access to a kitchen was something we had never experienced during our many B&B stays. We used our own utensils to grill on our own portable grill because we weren’t permitted to use theirs. We weren’t even able to use the kitchen to clean our dishes, utensils or wipe down the table when done. She even handed us our dirty utensils and said “here, these are yours”. So they went the weekend uncleaned. If you’re going to stay in the log cabin be prepared for no kitchen, a Spiral staircase that was very inconvenient and impossible to navigate, and a shower that was too small.

This B&B is an amazing stay for couples or the whole family! It is nestled on 35 acres farmland, less than 30 minutes drive from Pittsburgh. We went to the Zoo for a great event, and had a peaceful and relaxing evening in the log cabin. Then in the morning Tara made us an excellent breakfast of quiche, teas, and pastries, and afterwards we wandered the farmland to see the horses where John showed us around the carriage home and stables and offered to help us take a dip in the pool! A very unique property and experience, highly recommend staying here over a weekend or for a long stay vacation!
My wife and I first stayed at the Sun & Cricket shortly after getting married 2 years ago. Since then we've made it a tradition to spend the weekend there for our anniversary, having just spent our third weekend in the Carriage House. We've only ever stayed at the Carriage House, and I think it will always be our preferred location. We absolutely love the proximity to the horses (Mariah, Cody and Stargazer) and being welcomed by the two barn cats (Chief and Joe). The Carriage House also provides a more private feel as it's a good distance from the main house and log cabin. Each and every experience has been outstanding. Tara and John are fantastic hosts. We can't get enough of Tara's breakfasts (German puff pancakes are my personal favorite) and both Tara and John always provide warm and welcoming conversation. The swimming pool is beautiful and we always make sure to take full advantage of it if the weather cooperates. When we're at the Sun & Cricket, it's hard to believe that we're only 20 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh. It really feels like a whole different world. We look forward to continuing our tradition at our home away from home for years to come. If you're in from out of town or just need a little getaway close to home, I highly recommend a stay at the Sun & Cricket!
I took my wife for an overnight to celebrate her birthday, and we stayed in the log cabin. It was extremely clean and charming and even though we are from the South Hills of Pittsburgh, we felt like we were transported to a completely different place. Tara and John were both extremely helpful and accommodating. Breakfast was amazing! We could not have asked for a better experience and definitely plan to go back.
