Absolutely stunning view! The ride to the top was so exhilarating! The wild Donkey's on the side of the road was a beautiful surprise. Turn on your music open the windows and drive carefully through the hill into a wonderful view of the Phoenix area! Absolutely breathtaking!
Exploring South Mountain Park offers a truly multifaceted experience, centered around the iconic Dobbins Lookout. At 2,330 feet, this peak provides an unmatched 360-degree vista of the Phoenix skyline and distant landmarks like Camelback Mountain, all beautifully framed by the historic stone observation tower and ramadas built by the CCC in the 1930s. For anyone wanting a deeper connection to the landscape, I highly recommend stopping by the South Mountain Environmental Education Center at the park's base first; their interactive exhibits and relief maps provide excellent context for the desert's unique geology and history. While Dobbins is the star of the show, venturing further to the Gila Valley Lookout near the radio towers offers a much more secluded and peaceful alternative, boasting expansive southern views of the Gila River Indian Community and the Estrella Mountains. Between the rugged beauty of Petroglyph Alley on the Holbert Trail and unique geological formations like Fat Man’s Pass, these vantage points collectively showcase the very best of the Sonoran Desert’s natural and cultural heritage. Whether you drive up for the sunset or hike for the exercise, the views are some of the best in Arizona.

Love this place! A frequent haunt of mine when back home in the dirty Phoenix desert. This is atop South Mountain, offering gorgeous views of Phoenix and the valley! Many hiking trails and photo spots. Picnic areas. Highly recommended if you are an outdoors type.
Dobbins Lookout offers one of the best panoramic views of Phoenix with minimal effort once you reach the top. The city spreads out endlessly, and sunset is especially beautiful as the light softens and the skyline slowly glows. That said, the drive up can be scary if you’re afraid of heights - the road gets narrow in places, and there are sections with no guardrails, which can feel uncomfortable. Once you’re there, though, it’s quiet, windy, and peaceful, making the view feel earned and memorable despite the tense drive.
Nice place to get out and enjoy nature . There are a lot of different trails to hike as well. We stayed into the night and the city lights were beautiful! The parking gets full quickly on a Saturday, I recommend going early if you plan to hang out for a while especially for sunset. I didn't find the bathroom too desirable but , a lot of places in Arizona are like that although I feel that one is the worst. There was not a fee to get in so maybe that explains undesirable facilities.
