Even better than expected! You can tell it's not a new hotel but it's super clean, well maintained and the staff is absolutely incredible. The room cleaning staff is especially wonderful asking us how our stay was and just striking up a genuine conversation all the time. Will 100% come back. Location is great also, walking distance to pretty well anything downtown Detroit.
We went last night because we went to a Tigers game. The room was huge, and seemed a little too extravagant for my taste. Room has a living room, then steps down to the bedroom, as well as a huge bathroom with a soaker tub. My wife liked the tub in the room. The main issue was the noise last night. We got back to the hotel around 9, and they had a fireworks show. Loud booms until 11 pm, and on top of the fireworks there was tons of noise from down below. Cops on every corner, yet several motorcycles revving engines and other noises from outside; was not able to get to sleep until midnight (and we were on the 7th floor). Costs you 40 bucks for valet service on top of the 250 dollar hotel room cost, then look at bill and see several charges for weird taxes on the bill. I went to find a vending machine after 10, and realized there are none around our level--only ice machines on all levels. When I walked out of room to check, heard tons of loud voices coming from first floor. Toilets don't flush like they should, and be careful taking a shower with the deep tub. Overall, it was OK...just not worth the price or the extravagances (to me).

My children, ages 5 and 6, have life-threatening anaphylactic food allergies to dairy, egg, wheat, nuts, soy, and seafood. Because of the risk of cross-contamination, we travel with our own allergy-safe food and often need access to a microwave or assistance warming food. I asked hotel manager Leo Swilling whether a staff member could help warm food for my children. We were not requesting special meals or food preparation. We were only requesting assistance warming food that we had brought due to medically necessary dietary restrictions. My request was denied, and no alternative accommodation was offered. Because of my children's severe allergies, we cannot simply order takeout or eat at most restaurants. In previous hotel stays, staff have either provided access to a guest microwave or offered to warm our food in a staff area when a guest microwave was not available. I have never encountered a hotel that was unwilling to offer any assistance whatsoever. Adding to my disappointment, my family selected this hotel for our family reunion and reserved multiple rooms for out-of-town guests staying at the property. Given the number of family members and guests the hotel was hosting as part of our event, I had hoped for a more accommodating and customer-focused response to a request involving the safety of two young children with life-threatening allergies. The experience left me feeling that the needs of guests with serious medical dietary restrictions were not taken into consideration. As a result, I do not plan to stay at this property again and wanted to share this feedback so that future guests with similar needs can make an informed decision.
So for the price, I feel it could be much better. The staff are friendly and helpful and the lobby/entrance is nice but the room we had was very dated and gave an old grungy building. The bathroom needs an overhaul. Doors and hallway are very noisy (a little grease on the hinges goes a long way!). Some nice food places to enjoy within walking distance. I would book another place next time as this was overall underwhelming for the price.
The hotel was clean and well maintained. I always make an effort to be cordial and friendly with the staff wherever we stay, knowing that, generally, you get what you give. Upon arrival, my encounter with check-in seemed rather cold and indifferent. On to the room, it was huge! Clean, spacious, and possibly recently renovated. Impressive on first look. However, it is not senior friendly. The Grand Canyon step into the bathtub is nothing less than treacherous. Additionally, there are steps to get to the sleeping area. For those who have trips to the bathroom during the night, this can be somewhat of a hazard. The front room area is large with two workstations, sounds wonderful, correct? But there are no readily accessible plug ins and a complete absence of USB plugs anywhere. We had to request towels be sent up 2 of the 3 days we stayed. They were delivered to the room quickly, but the person delivering, again, did not exude much hospitality and seemed rather annoyed that they had to make this effort. Optics are good, but overall, for me, this property is not one I would stay at again.
