We were able to snag a table during their early opening for the holiday/race weekend. We arrived 15 minutes early and were seated immediately. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and delightful. My husband has a gluten allergy. Two of the items we wanted to order had gluten in them. So they altered them so we could still have them with our meal. All the food was hot and excellent. It was an amazing experience and we will be back again.
St. Elmo's is one of those restaurants that lives up to the hype when it comes to the food. The shrimp cocktail is absolutely a must-order and is world-famous for a reason. If you've never experienced that legendary cocktail sauce, be prepared—it definitely gets your attention. I also highly recommend the St. Elmo Cola cocktail. It's become a tradition for me, and I always order it with Diet Coke. For dinner, I had the filet, which was cooked perfectly and every bit as good as you'd expect from a classic steakhouse. The loaded baked potato was excellent, but the real surprise was the mushrooms—they were absolutely fantastic and one of my favorite parts of the meal. We finished with the cheesecake topped with raspberry purée, and it was completely over the top in the best possible way. Service was generally good, although we did order a salad that unfortunately never made it to the table. My biggest criticism has nothing to do with the food. The dining room was incredibly loud, and our table felt very cramped. It was difficult to carry on a conversation with my partner sitting directly across from me, which took away from the overall experience. That said, the quality of the food keeps me coming back. Between the shrimp cocktail, filet, mushrooms, St. Elmo Cola, and that incredible cheesecake, it's easy to see why St. Elmo's remains an Indianapolis institution. Just be prepared for a lively—and very noisy—atmosphere.

Absolute 10/10. I have been looking forward to this for some time now. Let me start with the service - it was hands down some of the best I’ve ever received. We had multiple people helping us, no cup was ever empty and every dirty plate was taken. The atmosphere was another level, history and taste. The hardwood, the books, the people - all amazing. The workers all wore very nice attire. Now onto the food- the ribeye and filet were our choices , although I’m sure any cut is fantastic there. One of the best steaks I’ve ever enjoyed, the ribeye was marbled perfectly and so juicy. Filet was cooked to perfection. They just didn’t miss. Also the shrimp cocktail was a BANG! To top it all off, one of the staff accidentally spilled one of our wine glasses just a little bit, comped the shrimp cocktail for us. I mean talk about absolute class. St Elmo’s, you were fantastic. You have earned my business for the future!
My first time here today. Very satisfying flavors. This place is A LOT bigger than it looks from the outside!! There are multiple areas for dining upstairs and downstairs. IF you like strong horseradish please don't miss out on the shrimp cocktail... epic sauce right there. Delivered for each guest prior to the main dish...is...St Elmo 1902 original recipe Navy Bean soup with bits of ham irresistible to the last bite (filling for me). Our table shared the Tomahawk and Prime Rib. It was more than enough for 5 people. Every side we ordered was bursting with flavor: Lobster mac, brussel sprouts, creamed corn, mushroom, french fries allll goood stuff. You may not have room in your belly for dessert, but I do recommend ordering the Madagascar Vanilla Bean small batch ice cream and/or cheesecake for the table to share! We will be going back during the Indy 500 weekend!! Cheers
I have heard about St. Elmo Steakhouse for years all the way in Texas so I figured I better give it a try. Each year during the NFL draft you hear all about the shrimp cocktail and I was excited to give one a go. When I arrived I was seated straight away and from the start to the end of my meal, the service I received from Daniel was absolutely fantastic. He is an incredible professional. The restaurant itself is beautiful and full of old school charm. I started with the Shrimp and kick you say? You are darn right there is a kick! The flavor is great but that burn doesn’t play. I followed that up with the 8oz filet and Mashed Potatoes paired with the Brussels Sprouts. The steak was tender and cooked to the exact desired temp but I felt it could have used more seasoning. The potatoes were super tasty as were the Sprouts. Overall it is hard to beat a classic steakhouse with amazing service. I am sure I am not telling you anything you couldn’t learn from the other thousands of reviews, but you can count me as a fan. Great restaurant!
