We had a fantastic stay at the Royal Sonesta River North! The location was perfect! Easy walk to so many great restaurants, bars, and Chicago attractions, which made exploring the city so easy. The hotel has a classy, old Hollywood vibe with the charm of a boutique hotel, but it never felt stuffy or pretentious. Every employee we encountered was genuinely friendly and welcoming. It truly felt like everyone was excited you were there, and that level of hospitality made a big difference. Our corner room was amazing, with floor-to-ceiling windows, comfortable beds, and an enormous soaking tub with jets was perfect after a day of walking around the city. The hotel was spotless, smelled wonderful throughout, and we appreciated little touches like complimentary bottled water and the infused water in the lobby. We were also celebrating our anniversary, and the thoughtful treats waiting in our room were such a sweet surprise. We really felt extra special. Even the employees remembering it was our anniversary was an unexpected touch! We didn’t have time to enjoy the pool or rooftop patio, but both looked like great places to relax and unwind. We’d absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a stylish, welcoming hotel in a fantastic location.
Great location and excellent service! Upon checking in, we were greeted by a wonderful staff member who welcomed us with such positive energy and great vibes. The entire check-in process was incredibly smooth. Our room was spotlessly clean, neat, and featured a very spacious bathroom. Since we were celebrating a birthday, they kindly surprised us with lovely balloons, wine, and chocolates! The location was fantastic, an easy walk to most of the main tourist spots. Overall, a 10/10 experience at a very reasonable price!

From the moment we arrived, Antwonne went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Traveling with my two daughters, I appreciated how attentive and kind he was while helping us unload our luggage on a busy city street. He immediately made us feel at ease and even ensured my daughters received gift bags before we headed upstairs. His warmth and hospitality stood out, and the family we were traveling with mentioned that he was equally helpful and welcoming when they arrived, too. Another highlight of our stay was an interaction with Gabby at the front desk. My daughter had noticed the hotel’s unique key cards, which feature beautiful artwork depicting animals in royal attire and assigned titles for dignitaries and royalty. When we stopped by the front desk to ask if we could get a specific card, Gabby surprised us by offering an entire set of all 19 cards. She then generously provided a second set for my other daughter, who wasn’t with us at the time. It was such a thoughtful gesture that turned a simple request into a special memory. The artwork itself is fantastic, and we loved discovering that one of the portraits is displayed in the lobby as both an oil painting and a remarkably detailed 3D-printed piece. What started as a fun collection quickly became an activity for my daughters, who spent time playing matching games with the cards throughout our stay. These experiences exemplify what great hospitality looks like. The staff clearly put guests first and create memorable moments through genuine kindness and attention to detail. Hotel room was a good size and clean. Nicely appointed. My wife and I had a corner room on the 10th floor with a clear city view of the Marina City. Great location as well. Easy access to the Red Line and Clark/Lake and State/Lake CTA stops. Would recommend.
Great location. Large rooms. Quiet except for (normal!) street noise — didn’t hear a peep from other guests or adjacent rooms. The only thing holding me back from 5 stars is the dated bathrooms and overall lack of amenities. New showerheads are needed to live up to the luxury style of the bathrooms.
