My husband and I stayed here over the New Year’s holiday a few months ago. The hotel is undoubtedly beautiful, but there are serious deficits with the service and care of the property. -The room wasn’t super clean (dusting especially lacking), and the housekeeping staff were slow to service the room - at one point they showed up at 4 pm just as we were returning to the room and were clearly annoyed that we were in THEIR way. -Multiple machines in the gym were out of order. -The hot tub at the spa was out of order. -The lobby and atrium of the hotel were a complete mess the morning after New Year’s Eve - trash all over the floor, games tossed on coffee tables, glasses pilled up on shelving… -My boots - which were under a bench just outside the door to our room - were taken by the housekeeping staff. No knock on the door to ask if the shoes were mine. They just took the boots! It took over an hour to get them back; meanwhile I had no shoes to wear on the property. -Despite paying over $500 a night, a trail pass was not included in our stay. Yes, they wanted us to pay full price for access to the Nordic trails, after spending close to $2k for three nights - and the trails didn’t even have snow. There were positives -the waiters at Heck’s were fantastic and the food at the Ranch House Restaurant was wonderful - but overall the experience fell short of our expectations, especially given the price we paid.
I can’t begin to describe how wonderful this place is. The atmosphere is beyond cozy and relaxing. There’s tons of fun and relaxing activities, we spent lots of time at the stables, spa, and sauna. The coffee shop and restaurants on property were perfect! We never even left the property the whole time we were there. The room was perfect and we loved our fireplace. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and helpful. We cannot wait to come back! We’d be here every weekend if we could!! Some feedback: the concierge was a little hard to get a hold of sometimes, but I think that’s because they were busy doing their jobs. The cleaning products that are used in the public bathrooms are very pungent and made the whole hallway smell like bathroom. These two issues were so small in comparison though that I hesitate to even call them issues.

Excellent week at the Ranch in mid-February. It's been a bad snow year for CO, but the hiking and views were beautiful. The resort has 6500 acres of pristine wilderness to explore. Our week was spent hiking, enjoying the sauna, steam room and hot tub, skiing at nearby Winter Park and exploring the town of Fraser. Heck's, the main eatery in the lodge, has delicious, affordable offerings, a fireplace and above, a balcony with many nooks and crannies to sit, relax, watch tv, read a book, play a game or gather with friends. We enjoyed the Ranch House for our anniversary dinner. We had a few minor complaints and the management company called us within 45 minutes of suggesting everything wasn't perfect, and corrected it. I've never experienced such a positive response to feedback. We will continue to revisit Devil's Thumb Ranch & Spa frequently! It's a true Colorado gem.
Our room had several things broken and not working, including the fireplace and bathtub. The room keys also did not work and needed to be redone by staff several times over our stay. The staff said this was typical for our room door and the key cards for our room "always have problems". Service was overall good. Beautiful area, and the spa services were well done. Lots to do at this resort. Nice resort overall, but we were definitely disappointed with our room for the price we were paying. We were not offered another room or any compensation considering the broken elements. Avoid room 210 (I think that was our room number) if you can.
Devil’s Thumb was BEYOND outstanding. The staff made the biggest impression - everyone I met was genuinely kind, attentive, and professional. I was there for a wedding and interacted with quite a few people across the property, and the level of service was consistently great. The property is beautiful and very well cared for. My room was extremely comfortable, with high-quality bedding, pillows, and robes that made the stay feel special. I also really appreciated the sauna, steam room, and pool near the fitness area. They’re open to all guests (separate from the spa) and were a great place to recharge. The food throughout the property was excellent as well - thoughtful, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Overall, it felt like a truly luxurious experience and absolutely worth the cost. I’d recommend it to anyone.
