Indiana State Museum

I spent Mother’s Day with my adult son at the Indiana State Museum, and honestly it ended up being one of those simple days I'll remember for a long time. The museum itself was wonderful. Interactive, relaxing, and genuinely engaging for both kids and adults. We loved walking through the exhibits together, and it never felt rushed or overwhelming. It gave us space to actually slow down and enjoy the day. What surprised me the most though was the food. We ate at the Farmers Market Cafe inside the museum, and I was honestly shocked by how good it was. Museum food can sometimes feel like an afterthought, but this meal was genuinely fine dining level, like something you’d get at a highly rated restaurant because it is highly rated. I ordered a burger, and it was incredible. The kind of meal where you stop halfway through and realize, “Okay… this is actually really, really good.” My son and I both stopped more than once to say that. Everything tasted fresh, well-made, and intentional. It honestly felt closer to a high dollar quality sit-down restaurant burger than something you’d expect inside a museum café. The atmosphere overlooking the park and canal outside made it even better. Between the exhibits, the food, and just getting uninterrupted time with my son, it ended up being one of my favorite Mother’s Days in a long time. If you’re looking for something meaningful to do in Indianapolis with family, I’d absolutely recommend spending a day there.

Very unusual museum. Eclectic displays from beavers to coke bottles to gathered parking lot trash. 🤷‍♀️ but there were also really cool fossils, skeletons, and educational displays. Kid friendly. Easy to navigate.
