Schmidt’s Sausage Haus Restaurant

Look, the history here is incredible, the German Village architecture is gorgeous, and the brick-laden atmosphere inside is top-tier. The service is friendly, and it truly feels like a cool step back in time. But as for the food? I’m going to be the brave soul who says it: the famous sausage is essentially a glorified, heavily marketed hot dog. It’s good! But if you come in expecting a culinary revelation that alters your DNA, you might leave a little underwhelmed. It’s a solid sausage in a historic room. The Jumbo Cream Puff is definitely a massive, impressive mountain of dairy, though it might be slightly overhyped by the locals. Come for the legendary Columbus atmosphere, the cool neighborhood streets, and the experience. Just manage your expectations on the meat-to-bun ratio, and you’ll have a great time.

From a out of towner's perspective: Great food spot in German Village. The food all taste very different and dare I say close to authentic (not as american leaning as I expected and so my partner who's been to Europe said but what do I know, I have never been to Germany). On a sunday evening, especially on Father's day, the house will be full. Expect a 20~35min wait. Servers were all seemingly nice. Shout out Lauren 💯. There is a buffet option ($25pp at the time). Seemed like the economical option but the dishes didn't quite look fresh and appetizing. The Bratwurst balls were 🔥 and so was the snitzel. Feast on a plate where you taste all things at once. From sweet apple sauce to savoury and spicy types of sausages to sour beets and krauts. This place is surely one to visit when in town. Atmosphere could improve better as table sitting areas seemed quite compact together but yet felt separated with booth seatings. Not the typical german dinner in a biergarten one may expect.
