I have been a patient at Downtown Dental (Loop) for 15+ years and up until now, my experiences with them have always been positive. Over the past year and a half, I have been living in Delaware but since I was back in Chicago in December I decided to schedule an appointment for a routine cleaning. When I arrived at my appointment I was not experiencing any issues, so I was quite surprised when Dr. Abou-Hanna informed me that in addition to the three "spots" they had been keeping an eye on, there were three new ones. And I was told that they now needed to be filled. Considering I am in my late 40s, have only had one cavity up until this point, and pay extra for fluoride treatments at every cleaning, you could say I was a bit shocked. In hindsight, I wish I had told her that I wanted to get a second opinion before proceeding with fillings since there was no mention of any cavity concerns at a dental appointment in DE just 8 months prior. But hindsight is 20/20, and when Dr. Abou-Hanna said that it would be better to take care of them now than to deal with root canals later, I panicked and agreed to get the four on my left side taken care of that day. What a mistake that was. For the next six weeks I had a great deal of sensitivity in the area where the fillings were done by Dr. Abou-Hanna, so I made an appointment with my dentist in DE. At that appointment, I was told that one of the teeth marked in Downtown Dental's ledger as having been filled was completely bare. There was nothing there, which was likely the source of my sensitivity. I was also told that there are no signs of cavities on my right side - not even any spots to watch. Hmmm - that's interesting. What happened to the two noted by Dr. Abou-Hanna in my Dec visit? Leads me to wonder how necessary the ones I had done on my left side really were. The DE Dentist was willing to fill the tooth for me but since I get back to Chicago periodically she suggested I might want to first follow-up with Downtown Dental since I had already paid for that filling. So I sent an email to Downtown Dental that afternoon requesting that Dr. Abou-Hanna follow-up with me once she had a chance to take a look a photo of the tooth (taken by DE dentist). A staff member responded to my email and said that she would forward the image to Dr. Abou-Hanna for review. I thanked her and said I was looking forward to hearing back. When I hadn't heard back three days later, I reached out again. Three days later, still no response. I understand things can get busy but when a patient is experiencing pain as a result of work performed in your office, SOMEONE should follow-up. It seems like there has been a change in ownership or something because like I said before, my experiences with Downtown Dental up until this point were always positive. Can't say that now.

Outstanding customer service on the phone and welcoming me in to the office for my first time. The office is located right in the Loop on with very easy access. Dr. Cummings was amazing and provided his recommendation for the procedure that was best for me. We also discussed alternative procedures and this helped me to easily confirm our treatment plan was the best for me. His team reviewed the detailed costs and provided suggestions how to get my insurence further involved. Big thank you all for your swift action in getting me in same day!
I have been coming to downtown dental since 2010 or earlier. They have the best dental hygienists. Cleaning was never a nightmare when the former dentist stop cleaning my teeth again. I love Johanna Smith these days. She is super professional and even use her favorite brand of dental floss for her client. Super great energy too. I had filler, tooth pulled, root canal and implant here. All were great experiences and people who work here are caring and professional.
The most humiliating experience. Just bring the cash if you want them to work. Booked a “complimentary” orthodontist appointment. (I was there before with an emergency visit, and even had to buy a discount plan for $99). On the website there’s no information about the consultation requirements + I texted them and talked on the phone about it. Here’s the date and time, no fee. Okay… And today at the appointment time after 10 minutes waiting for the doctor, they told me: we can’t do a consultation without a full exam, and brought me a bill to pay. The reason is “to make sure you have no cavities”. What if I do? No consultation available? I just wanted to talk to a doctor and to learn more about Invisalign. And yes, it makes sense to check the X-rays – I have the most recent ones and never been asked for them. I am upset how rude they refused to give me the consultation, waisting my time and not saying anything in advance.
I went in for a cleaning…. And never got a cleaning…. After my dentist stopped carrying our insurance I found Downtown Dental and saw it had great reviews so I booked a cleaning and exam. At the appointment, the receptionist informs my husband and I that they don’t in fact take our insurance. We say it’s okay and we’ll just have to leave. But she then quickly says she found our plans rate and will just charge us for that. We were pretty confused at this point. I then sat around an extra 20 minutes after my appointment was scheduled, which was no problem. I finally get taken back by the very friendly hygienist who apologizes for the wait and she was just trying to get my previous dentist to send over my x rays. Again, no problem. I was a little disheartened when I got to the exam room- it was incredibly small and looked very dirty and dated- nothing like the pictures online. I had also emailed and asked if there were TVs in the exam rooms because I have anxiety and a TV helps and was told that they definitely do have TVs. They definitely did not. Anyway, the hygienist decides to do new x rays- sounds good to me! The x ray machine is as super dated and she kept commenting on how hard it was to use- very different from the state of the art equipment I saw online in their pictures. She finishes her gum exam and says everything looks great. She waves down the dentist who does her quick exam and said everything looks great. I figure she can start the cleaning now but instead the hygienist points to the clock and says “well, it’s already been an hour so it looks like we won’t get to the cleaning today. So don’t forget to make another appointment for that”. Um… I’ve never had this happen. I drove 45 minutes, took work off and paid for parking… I don’t think I’m going to come back.
