Well worth the short walk and wait. It happens really fast, but we were lucky enough to get them when it was still pretty well lit. Highly recommend this... I mean not much you can get in entertainment for free anymore and this show is put on for free by nature.
Fun experience. The bats all fly off within about 5 minutes, so you need to get there early to avoid missing it. They left a few minutes after official sunset time.
We thought this was super cool. We parked at Spotts Park and walked the sidewalk which was a little frightening on the bridges but parking on Allen Parkway was full since so much parking is closed off. Watching the predatory birds hunt the bats was fascinating.

This experience never disappoints. It's incredible to watch that many bats leave at once and the gauntlet of hungry birds waiting to pick them off adds some suspense. A few things would make this even better - more signage explaining where to go from the nearby parking areas, more signs that tell about the bats near their bridge, and a tower viewer or two so you can get an up close look. Fantastic for kids of all ages.
This was genuinely one of the coolest experiences ever if you're an animal lover. 100% worth stopping by and experiencing!
