I brought my fiancé here as a little surprise, and we both absolutely loved it! I managed to snag free admission tickets on a Wednesday right when they first became available. We parked in a nearby garage, which was a pleasant 15-minute walk to the museum, and arrived about 10 minutes before the doors opened. Once inside, check-in was seamless. Having not been here in almost 20 years, I was thrilled to be back. We headed straight for the Pokémon Fossil Museum exhibit for our 9:15 AM entry slot. The layout and design of the exhibit were fantastic. It kicks off with a great display of various Pokémon fossils and their real-world counterparts. (Fun fact: they actually have a fossilized piece of poop on display—no one believed me until they read the description themselves!). While I do wish the exhibit had been a bit longer, we had an amazing time. I also really appreciated the gift shop policy that limited purchases to 5 items per person, which kept things fair for everyone. If you or a loved one are Pokémon fans, I highly recommend checking this out!
I was truly amazed by this museum; I loved the huge variety of exhibits. I absolutely loved the Egypt section—it was incredible to be so close to real mummies and authentic Egyptian artifacts with such rich history. I also really appreciated the exhibits showcasing the cultures and history of indigenous peoples from other parts of the world, such as Latin America. The animal exhibit was another highlight; I was able to see many species up close that are rarely found in zoos, and I loved the interactive area where you could touch the pelts of exotic animals, like a tiger. I was also delighted by the wide range of dinosaur exhibits. I would recommend that future visitors allow plenty of time and essentially set aside that entire block of the day to explore the museum at a leisurely pace; it is quite large, and it will take you at least three to four hours to see everything, but I feel it is absolutely worth it.

This is the MOST AMAZING museum I have ever experienced! The dinosaur skeletons alone are reason to visit! They have Sue, the most complete t-Rex skeleton to ever be discovered! There is so much to see and learn about! I recommend planning lots of time for this or doing it over multiple days because it’s so sprawling! Also the cafe has amazing food! This is a must see!
This is a tough review to write, because the whole experience at the Field Museum was inspirational, educational, and one of the best experiences of my entire life. I came to Chicago for GO Fest and I was lucky enough to secure two tickets to the Early Morning Access to the Pokemon Fossil Museum, which includes general admission to the rest of the museum, along with access to the special Pokemon storefront, separate from the general store with some additional nifty trickets from the Pokemon center including models, LEGO, and the exclusive Excavator Pikachu! The experience was wonderful - with the early access, you get a guided tour of the museum proper, the Grainger Hall of Gems, and some great exhibits concerning evolution over time in several species, and of course the dinosaurs! There is an additional opportunity through the tour to visit the third floor to explore one room with a local paleontologist from their educational department to view & discuss some exhibits that are not on display. Needless to say, I learned quite a bit, personally. My eight-year-old was also in attendance, and the experience was unparalleled for him in terms of the educational value and the absolute awe inspired from seeing the exhibits in person. The museum has an amazing arrangement and a wide variety of other exhibits dedicated to culutural histories, modern plants & wildlife conservation, as well as a science hub & children's play center. The campus is generally quite lively and absolutely massive. The museum is very clean and well kempt on both the outside around the gardens as well as within. The actual facility holds far more than meets the eye; we would need to come back for another visit to finish exploring the primary galleries and exhibits. With this past weekend being GO Fest, it was tough to fit it all in, since there is so much to offer and so little time during events! I would definitely consider coming back for an additional visit in the future, since it was such a great experience the first time around. The Pokemon Fossil Museum exhibit is also spectacular and feels like a once in a lfietime opportunity - I would also suggest considering the applicable events for a specific exhibit you are looking to view, as the staff are friendly, courteous, and absolutely astounding in terms of their knowledge and familiarity with the subjects of the exhibits. The daily tours are also a nice service that you can sign up for with a staff member to go through some of the standard exhibits. I would recommend a visit if you have never been before, have any interest in local, cultural, or natural history, and especially if you are a Pokemon fan while the exhibit is still in town!
I was visiting outside of Chicago. Specifically went to the Field Museum for an adult event with opportunity to enter the Pokemon Fossil Exhibit & store. Museum is well kept and there's two levels to it. Multiple points of entry (i.e. North, West, South and East) so note which entrance you need to go to. For regular hours I believe you'll typically enter through the North or South entrance anyways. Ride share vehicles and drop off vehicles can stop right in front. There isn't any parking relatively close so best commute is transit or ride share. Although my prime reason for visit was for Pokemon. I enjoyed the other exhibits. Many on display and realistic. I haven't been to a Museum in a while and it brought back field trip vibes. In regards to the Pokemon Fossil Exhibit area, you may need only 30-45 minutes in that area to check what's on display, read the information, interact and take photos. There's a store afterwards specifically for Pokemon Fossil merch. Some items are limited to quantity per sale and sells out well in the early hours. The night event I went to involved complimentary drinks and snacks, fun participation activities to gain stamps toward a prize. Meal voucher option available if you wanted a more hearty meal. Overall, fun experience that I would partake in again!
