We come to Columbus every year for the Arnold and were incredibly excited to stay at The Joseph. The staff has been friendly and accommodating and the hotel itself is beautiful. The disappointing part falls on the hotel’s decision to contract a 5pm checkout for a very large group on the Thursday leading into the Arnold Sports Festival - most rooms remain unavailable even hours past the 3pm check in time and there are close to 30 of us -all with reservations that were generally made months in advance - waiting in the lobby for our rooms. It’s not the end of the world, but it is below the standard I would expect for a luxury hotel. Again, I have to iterate that the staff themselves have been wonderful and this is a difficult situation they have been put in, it’s just a disappointing start to a stay we were excited for.
I enjoy staying at Le Méridien Columbus, The Joseph, I’ve stayed a few times when my friend visits so we can enjoy what downtown has to offer. During my most recent check-in, I had an uncomfortable experience with the front desk associate, Rhyan Throughout the check-in process, Rhyan provided almost no information about the hotel or its amenities—no mention of breakfast, the bar, or anything else. The only information he offered was when he handed us the keys & that was a reminder that smoking and vaping are not allowed in the room. Neither of us smoke or vape, so this felt unnecessary and confusing. What made it stand out even more was hearing the guest next to us receive a full overview of the hotel during their check-in, without any mention of smoking or vaping. As a Marriott associate myself and a repeat guest at this property, this interaction felt inconsistent and uncomfortable. I’m unsure whether the treatment was influenced by the associate discount or something else that i would hope isn’t the case, but it did make us feel singled out. That said, I do want to note that the bar staff provided an excellent experience. They were welcoming, professional, and attentive, which helped improve our overall stay. I’ve enjoyed this hotel in the past, which is why this experience stood out. I hope management can address consistency at the front desk so all guests receive the same level of hospitality and information upon arrival.

We chose this hotel for our 5-year anniversary getaway, expecting a luxurious experience based on how the property is marketed. Unfortunately, our stay did not live up to that expectation. Upon arrival, we requested a high floor with a city view and were assigned Room 1007. I strongly recommend not accepting this room. Throughout our stay, there was constant loud noise above us, similar to being directly beneath a pool, with sounds continuing both day and night. Whether it was old pipes or another issue, it made the room very uncomfortable and disruptive. For a hotel that presents itself as upscale, several details were disappointing. The bathroom was stocked with very thin, off-brand toilet paper, and there was no conditioner in the shower upon arrival (though the front desk did promptly bring a bottle, which we appreciated). Additionally, the bedding was extremely firm, to the point that I woke up unable to turn my head left or right, which ultimately led us to leave early. We booked a 4 day stay. It snowed 2 nights during the stay and many of the sidewalks including this hotels stayed slippery from not throwing salt as well. If you are looking for a truly luxurious hotel experience, this is not it. That said, the staff were kind, helpful, and welcoming, which deserves recognition. The coffee from The Soul was excellent, and while we didn’t dine there, the hotel is in a great location surrounded by top-notch restaurants. The art gallery on the second floor is also a nice touch and worth visiting. Overall, while the service and location were strong, the room quality and overall comfort fell short of what’s advertised.
WOW! We have stayed at many Marriott’s and many many in Columbus. This hotel will now be the only one we stay at on our visits. Clean, comfortable and amenities not commonly found in rooms anymore. No question on where to stay for us next time!
My husband I were gifted a weekend stay at this hotel. (12/5-12/7) I chose this room specifically for the large soaking tub. Upon arrival the room seems perfect. Beautiful decor, Nespresso machine, huge king bed and even a Christmas tree. As soon as we checked I headed for that tub. To my shock there was MOLD. Mold on the ceiling, on the floor. Rusty fixtures! And the sliding door was dropping metal shavings all over the floor. I was grateful I brought slippers to avoid getting metal in my feet! The next day we ordered room service breakfast and there was a hair in my napkin/silverware roll up! I expected a better quality mold, rust and hair free experience from this hotel. If you plan on staying here, lower your expectations.
