Easily one of the best Marriott properties I’ve ever stayed in! Wow, what can I say? From the spotless rooms to the unbeatable location, this hotel has everything you could want. You truly do not need to rent a car if you stay here. It is just steps away from the transit station and within easy walking distance of the waterfront. The surrounding area is packed with things to do, tons of amazing happy hours, and great coffee shops. You can also easily rent bikes or scooters right nearby. On top of that, the food scene in Portland is unmatched—literally everything I’ve eaten so far has been absolutely amazing. The hotel even provides a fantastic list of local recommendations to help you find the best spots. I already cannot wait to come back to Portland and stay here again! It is ready to copy and paste! It sounds like you had an absolutely perfect trip to Portland. Safe travels on your next adventure!
I am genuinely disappointed and frustrated over my stay this past weekend. I used to travel for work and stay at this Marriott Waterfront monthly - would look forward to it. I live in the Portland Metro now, so when I decided to plan a little "staycation" I knew I wanted to go back to Marriott Waterfront. From the beginning there were problems. My room wasn't ready?! I'd asked for an early check-in, which they couldn't accommodate due to the room type I had booked—no problem. We went and had delicious sushi down the block and returned at 4:20 (20 minutes after check-in), but our room still was not ready. It was bizarre to me. So they found another comparable room to reassign us to. If this was possible, why not reassign us to that room 2 hours before? Our room was satisfactory - we were on the 14th floor which was nice. They did put us right next to the elevator which is a room I don't think anyone prefers. But I didn't say anything. We didn't pack snacks because I had upgraded to the M Club room which gave us access to a lounge where there was said to be snacks provided. We went down to the M Club and there was not one snack. No drinks, no fruit, no baked goods, no individual snacks, nothing. When we left at 5:00 to go to City Fair I told the lady at the front desk who was very nice said that there were lots of kids staying in the hotel this weekend for some sort of event, and that they were cleaning them out of snacks. Okay well if you know that then keep the snacks stocked? Am I complaining about snacks, yes. But like the lady at the front desk said, it's a perk we paid for. She said she would get them stocked within the hour. We returned back to the hotel at 9:30 pm. Went to the lounge to see about getting a bottle of juice and there were still no snacks. No juice. No bottles of water. I went back to the front desk and told the nice lady and she said to check again in 45 minutes. We did. Guess what? No snacks. We ordered room service which we were excited about. It came quickly but was packaged in to-go containers and handed to us in a paper bag. Gone are the days of food on plates I suppose? So I cut my steak with a plastic fork on a soggy cardboard container. When we pulled back the covers to get in bed the underside of the duvet had a brown smear on it - this was NOT a stain but some disgusting brown substance on an unwashed duvet. We just took the blanket off the bed and piled it in the corner of the room. During the night the hallways were filled with kids playing with the elevator- for over an hour. I called, not sure if anything was done. Breakfast started at 7 til 10:30 - we went down at 9 and there was nothing left - 1.5 hours before it ended there was nothing left but muffins. If this was just part of my room price I would have understood, but we paid EXTRA for the perk of breakfast. While the staff members I encountered were professional and kind, they seemed powerless to resolve these systemic issues. When I mentioned these concerns at checkout, I was simply told, "We do the best we can." As a former regular guest, I find this experience incredibly discouraging. I hope you will look into these lapses in service and hygiene. I just left there feeling like it was a very odd experience - kind of like the twilight zone.

As a Marriott Bonvoy member, I have always trusted Marriott properties to provide a certain level of cleanliness, professionalism, and customer care. Unfortunately, my recent stay at the Marriott Downtown Portland was one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had. As I arrived to my room, I was taken back by the beautiful view. But, as I laid on the bed, I discovered bed bugs in my room, which immediately raised serious concerns about the cleanliness and condition of the property. I went to the front desk, and discreetly addressed the issue with Jessica Rojas, who was wonderful and so concerned about how and what she could do to help. She told me she would grab a manager for me to speak with, Nikoas Alves. What made the situation even more disappointing was the way it was handled by management. Instead of showing empathy, urgency, or professionalism, the hotel manager was rude and dismissive when I brought the issue forward. At that time, I told him I would probably go find another hotel to stay at. And his response was “great, do what you need to and if you choose to leave, I’ll cancel your stay.” No guest should have to deal with bed bugs, and certainly no loyal Bonvoy member should be treated with disrespect after reporting a legitimate health and safety concern. I expected accountability and customer service, but instead left feeling ignored and frustrated. I hope Marriott takes this issue seriously, both in addressing the cleanliness standards at this property and in improving how management handles guest concerns moving forward.
My family and I truly enjoyed our time here at Marriott Waterfront Hotel. My husband treated me to a waterfront room and M Club lounge experience for my celebration of hitting all 50 states. Our room had a beautiful view of the river and of Mt. Hood. We were so lucky to meet, Jose, who was incredibly considerate and kind with my family. He is truly a gem of a person! He gave us so many great restaurant suggestions and places to visit while we are on our vacation. Crystal, was also super sweet as well. We really enjoyed the M Club lounge food and snacks. We absolutely love our complimentary tickets to the Chinese Garden-it was so serene and peaceful. Thank you for such a wonderful stay.
This hotel is nothing special. It is located near the river, but it is one or two miles to shops and restaurants downtown, in the Pearl District and on 23rd. We paid for a river view, but the windows were covered with an adhesive film - for what reason I cannot imagine - that obscured and distorted the view. The bed was comfortable. The room was small with a tiny closet, cramped bathroom and small television. The “artwork” was laughable. The furniture was meh and the weird placement of the mirror made it difficult to use. The room wasn’t dirty , but it wasn’t particularly clean, either. This room had a worn-out feel. I can’t imagine booking a room here in the future.
