Visted the founder of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Commpany, Franklin August Seiberling. Great Cemetery
What a beautiful place! It was quiet and well taken care of.
Founded in 1839, Akron Rural Cemetery has been renamed to Glendale Cemetery. One of the "park" cemeteries like Mount Auburn near Cambridge Massachusetts and Hollywood in Richmond Virginia and Pere La Chaise in Paris, this uses the hills and promontories to present a more idyllic landscape compared to the flat "lawn" cemeteries. Quiet lanes for driving through or get a good workout by parking and then taking a hike. Politicians and industrialists and regular people are laid to reset here, with perhaps the most well known being Frank Seiberling (1859 to 1955) who founded the Goodyear Tire company that is based here in Akron. Plenty to see here and of course, a peaceful spot for a walk. Please remember that this is an "active" cemetery so be respectful with noise.

Don’t get buried here if you want friends and family to visit you. I visited to drop items off at a grave. I got back in my car and right when I was about to leave, a worker drove up to me with their windows down and giving me a nasty look with his arm out. I rolled down my window to ask what the problem was when he just shouted at me that there was a funeral coming and I needed to leave. I said that I was, but he sped off. As I was trying to leave, another worker stopped me and waved me off to another road that took me off to some other part of the cemetery instead of the exit. I finally looped back around and almost got stopped one more time but I was finally able to leave. I don’t know why they would treat a visiting family member with so much attitude and aggression. How was I supposed to know there was a funeral and that I apparently wasn’t supposed to be there?
Appreciate the Civil War chapel, which I visit with my family on Memorial Day to read the stories of sacrifices made and their significance. Amazing stories and also difficult to imagine. The whole cemetery is beautiful and this gem at the entrance deserves a visit. Read their stories in the pictures attached
