I’ve visited this garden a handful of times over the years and it is always a beautiful and peaceful oasis in the middle of the city. Be sure to stop in for some tea. In the winter I like to get one of their blooming teas. In the summer a nice ice tea is perfect. I happened to go most recently when they had a storyteller and calligrapher on site doing demonstrations. My son always loves to see the Koi fish.

What an amazing experience that I will always keep in my heart. You do physically step into a different world but also spirituality you step into a more peaceful and serene space. One that allows you to reflect and enjoy just how truly beautiful this space is. I had the opportunity to do the Tea tasting with Kelly and had an amazing time learning about tea and tasting them as well. She was very knowledgeable and patient and answered all of our questions. Truly recommend to anyone who have the time (and frankly you should make the time 🥰). I also had the opportunity to experience the garden during their lotus festival 💙💜
Really beautiful gem in downtown Portland. The docent tour with Sara was really great. Everything about this garden shows such stunning craftsmanship and it's very peaceful despite some city noise. I really liked the poetry calligraphy and the deep symbolism behind every design feature. This isn't located in a good part of town, so I recommend not leaving valuables in your vehicle. There is free parking lot, which is a nice bonus.
I have been to quite a few Japanese gardens when traveling around, but when I found a Chinese Garden in town; I wanted experience something new. This beautiful spot makes for both a museum/garden and Tea House. This location is beautifully laid out with different sections to explore from bonsais, to authentic architecture, to lotus gardens. As you walk around you'll find spots where you will learn about Chinese culture and how nature is an integral part of its identity. Once you are ready, make your way to the Tea house and purchase a cup of tea for yourself or get a small pot to share. They have a nice selection of many traditional Asian tea varieties and also typical Chinese sweet treats to accompany your tea drinking experience. Want to experience this at home? Purchase some of your favorite tea from their shop and other tea drinking accessories on your way out. An overall great experience and highly recommended for anyone looking for something unique to see on their travels.
