What an interesting place! The Great Lakes are incredible, and the stories, displays and interactive things to do make is great. It's clean and set up beautifully! Great job - and a fun place to learn more about the ships, boats and shipwrecks, trade, the lakes themselves... All done masterfully!
We spent about 2 to 3 hours here going through everything, and it was a really great experience. The main museum building is very interesting and filled with interactive exhibits that keep things engaging the whole way through. That being said, the absolute highlight for me was getting to go out and explore the actual freighter and tugboat. Just a heads up if you go onto the vessels—the stairs are quite steep and tricky in some places, and my fear of heights definitely kicked in a couple of times while exploring them! Personally, I wouldn't want to visit the museum without including the ship experience—it really ties the whole trip together and makes the history come alive. It’s a fantastic, well-done spot, just make sure you get the ticket option that includes the ships to get the full experience (and wear good shoes!).

The National Museum of Great Lakes blew me out of the water… pun intended! There is so much to see and learn here. I’d recommend blocking out a few hours here to get the whole experience worth it. Once the big ship opens up for summer, I’ll have to come back to see more!
You have to visit both the ships and the museum. Both took 3 hours for us but can take longer if you read everything. Definitely worth the time. Fascinating to see.
The museum was fantastic. Lots of history about shipping on the Great Lakes, shipwrecks, safety improvements and ecology. There are lots of interactive exhibits. We were too early in the season for the ship and boat tours.
