Absolutely beautiful garden. Great loop, lots of shade. We were blessed with stunning weather (a little warm, but no clouds) so the views were incredible. Loved how peaceful and quiet the walk was. We went at 4 PM on a Monday, so definitely less busy than a weekend but still a good amount of people. A great getaway from downtown! There is a cafe on site, but they close around 5 PM.
So this was truly an experience. We visited in early May, and it was absolutely beautiful. Magnificent, to be more precise. It was very memorable and genuinely felt like we were in a part of Japan. I honestly don’t understand what some people are complaining about. Stroller-friendly paths and easy-access walkways? It’s not Disneyland; it’s a Japanese garden. They are trying to recreate a natural and authentic experience. As for the price, in my opinion, it’s really not that expensive. I feel like many people don’t realize how much work, effort, and maintenance are required to preserve a garden like this. I truly enjoyed it and would totally recommend visiting!

What a beautiful place to visit. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and highly recommend if you’re in the Portland area and love garden strolling. Just a note…parking can be a challenge and there is quite a steep climb to get to the garden entrance after you’ve paid. There is a shuttle available and I recommend it if you are at all physically challenged. The adjoining Rose Garden is also a great stroll.
The Portland Japanese Garden is such a treat to visit especially in the Fall with all the beautiful foliage! The koi pond is so cool and the water features are nice. Everything is meticulously maintained even the restrooms. There are bonsai trees throughout, a zen garden, and even a tea house. Try the Mugicha (roasted barley) tea! The cookies were not what we were used to and we didn't care for them. They have stroller accessibility and a shuttle as parking can be tight especially during the busy season. You must pay to park. There are nice views of the city, too! This is one must stop if you're in the area! They even have free admission for Veterans Day, which is the best time of year to visit. The next best time is late March to early April when all the cherry blossoms are putting on a show!
We recently visited the Portland Japanese Garden with our family, and it was truly a beautiful and peaceful experience. The atmosphere is calm, relaxing, and perfect for spending quality time with loved ones. Although we weren’t very lucky with the timing, as the trees and flowers were not yet in full bloom, we still had a wonderful time. We took many photos and enjoyed walking through the garden together. It’s definitely a great place for families, and I highly recommend visiting. Just make sure to plan your visit during the right season to fully enjoy its natural beauty.
