I have been waiting to visit here for many years now and it was an absolute delight to be in front of this majestic lighthouse. The walkway to the lighthouse was in tiptop condition though they do not have any free parking nor any roadside parking. The paid parking was a steep $5. The walkway is neatly levelled for a wheelchair. There is no entry fee but climbing up the lighthouse was not available when I visited there.
William G. Milliken State Park and Harbor is home to one of the best views of the Detroit skyline, and the lighthouse is a great focal point. The combination of the lighthouse, river, and city in the background makes this a really unique spot—especially in the winter when the ice and snow add a completely different feel. It’s a great place to walk around, take in the views, and spend some time along the water. If you’re into photography, there are a lot of strong compositions here, especially with the skyline lined up behind the lighthouse. Definitely worth a stop along the riverwalk—this is one of the standout views in Detroit.

Visited the Milliken State Park Lighthouse and absolutely loved the serene vibe! The location is stunning, with the Detroit River as a perfect backdrop, ships gently passing by, and a peaceful waterfront atmosphere. It’s a photographer’s dream — the lighthouse, river, and skyline create such a beautiful frame. I stayed back for the sunset, and it was magical watching the sky transform into shades of orange and pink over the water. A perfect spot for a relaxing walk, soaking in the views, or just sitting back and enjoying nature right in the heart of the city.
All photos are taken and distributed by Be Photographed. Milliken State Park and Lighthouse is such a beautiful spot for engagement and proposal photography. I can’t take credit for choosing it, but I’m so glad Nathan did — it turned out to be the perfect location. When I take photos here, the views are incredible: Windsor, Canada in one direction and the Detroit Renaissance Center in the other. It creates a stunning skyline backdrop that’s hard to beat. The lighthouse itself is very photogenic, and even though the park is small, it’s full of character — from the boats and fishing areas to the well-kept pathways and greenery. Paid parking right across the street makes it super convenient for couples and guests. Milliken State Park is one of my favorite hidden gems for proposals and engagement photos in Detroit.
