I went in June and oh boy! This is one of the most beautiful flower gardens I have seen. The roses were in full bloom - thousands of them and fragrant too! You should definitely spend 2 hours admiring the beauty, color, and fragrance of each rose and it's completely free to the public. It was lush with a lot of open spots where people can enjoy picnic and hanging out. There is a small shop that sells rose fragrance items, I highly recommend the candles. Definitely worth the visit during the blooming season

It was originally created to preserve rose varieties from around the world during World War I, and today it features thousands of stunning rose bushes in every color imaginable. The garden is especially beautiful during the golden hour, when the soft evening light makes the roses and surrounding landscape look magical. On a clear day, you can also enjoy breathtaking views of downtown Portland and Mount Hood, making it a perfect place for photography or simply relaxing. The atmosphere is peaceful, colorful, and refreshing. Whether you’re walking through the flower beds, taking pictures, or just sitting on a bench enjoying the fragrance of the roses, it’s a wonderful place to unwind. Rating: 9/10 ⭐ Bonus Tip: If you’re already visiting the Pittock Mansion, don’t skip this garden—it’s only 5–7 minutes away and the two places make a perfect combination for a relaxing afternoon or evening in Portland. Here is a review you can use: We absolutely loved our visit to the International Rose Test Garden! We arrived right when the flowers were in full bloom, and the sheer scale of the color and fragrance was incredible. With over 10,000 rose bushes representing hundreds of varieties, every row offered a completely different shape, size, and scent to take in. It truly showcases exactly why Portland is known as the City of Roses. The garden is beautifully maintained, with terraced walkways that make it very easy to wander through the different sections. Aside from the stunning florals, the backdrop is unbeatable—on a clear day, you get gorgeous, sweeping views of downtown Portland and Mount Hood in the distance. It’s a wonderfully peaceful place to just stroll around, relax, and take photos. Best of all, this amazing attraction is completely free! I would highly recommend carving out at least an hour or two to explore without rushing. Just a heads-up that parking in Washington Park can be pretty tight, especially when the weather is nice, so consider using the MAX light rail or the free park shuttle to avoid the hassle. It was an absolute highlight, and we would recommend it to anyone!
This was such a beautiful experience, and it was even better because it was free. It was a little difficult figuring out where the garden ended and the Japanese Garden began; however, the parts we saw before it started pouring down rain were absolutely gorgeous! I highly recommend stopping by the gift shop. They had great postcards and souvenirs. If you’re in the Portland area and looking for things to do, I highly recommend stopping here!
After visiting the Adidas employee store, I still had some time to spare, so I drove about ten minutes to the International Rose Garden. The garden was pleasant, with roses in different colors. I went on 14-Jun-2026, though the flowers weren’t very full and some were already fading, I guess maybe not the best season. Even so, the place felt calm and nice, a good spot for a short walk without spending money. A lot of cute squirrels were running around the garden, which made the visit feel even more lively. There’s also a playground nearby, making it a comfortable place for families to spend time together.
