My wife and I booked a 'Premier Cabin' at Hueston Woods Lodge for a romantic Valentine’s Day, but it turned into a nightmare immediately. This wasn't just 'rustic' or 'dated'—the cabin was filthy, dilapidated, and structurally unsafe. 1. Severe Safety & Fire Hazards: The most shocking part was the utility room. We found an active water leak dripping directly onto live electrical wires. The pipes were corroded, the vent pipes were obstructed, and there were exposed outlets hanging out of the walls. To make matters worse, there were no active carbon monoxide detectors in the cabin despite these obvious gas and fire risks. 2. Disgusting Biohazards: The cleanliness was appalling. The toilet appeared to have dried blood or feces smeared on the outside with visible wipe marks—it clearly hadn't been cleaned. The refrigerator was disgusting, the floors were dirty, and every light fixture was filled with dead bugs. 3. Broken Amenities & Furniture: We specifically booked a cabin for the fireplace, but it failed to light. Maintenance spent an hour trying to fix it but admitted they didn't even have the parts. The furniture was collapsed and covered in cigarette burns, and the tables looked like they were dragged out of a dumpster. 4. Management Negligence: When I reported this, staff claimed they inspect these cabins after every rental and that management walks through weekly. If that is true, they are willfully ignoring fire hazards and biohazards. We have photos documenting the wiring, the filth, and the neglect. Do not stay here until they are shut down for major repairs."

Very friendly staff. Food at restaurant was large portions and very reasonable. Had a lake view room and got to enjoy the snowfall. Beautiful art work by an Ohio artist, Vicky Murphy.
I want to write a better review, I love this area of ohio, I grew up 15 mi South of the Lodge. This building is old, and it shows. It's hard to heat a gargantuan A-frame, the warm air isn't where you want to be, though it's probably more comfortable in summer. I ordered a steak at the restaurant, I will give that it tasted wonderful, but it was the toughest steak I've had in 30 years.
Our family was here for the Thanksgiving buffet, but after visiting, we are planning a stay for a few days. Although, the buffet was a little disappointing for the price. The place is amazing with the views and all the amenities offered. My husband is excited about the game room. The lodge is beautifully decorated for Christmas. It's like stepping into a Hallmark movie.
What a great place...all decorated for Christmas. I am sooooo glad we stayed there and not one of the generic chain motels in Oxford. I would 10/10 recommend this place. Ask for Micki when you make your reservation and tell her Bob sent ya, haha
