The rooms were very clean, fairly quiet and the service was excellent. My room did not have a tv remote and they got me one on the second day, the tube of lotion on the bathroom counter was empty and the conditioner in the shower would not dispense. The AC in my friends room was not working on our fist day. The breakfast area did not open till 7am and there was only one person to staff that area which was problematic with twenty of us trying to get something to eat before heading off to training. I will be back to the Courtyard Marriott because it is clean and safe.
By far, this was the worst Courtyard by Marriott we’ve stayed at. From the moment we checked in, the room was not properly cleaned. The shampoo, conditioner, and body wash dispensers were all empty, there was hair on the towels, and to make matters worse, someone else’s toothbrush was still left in the shower. Housekeeping is only provided every other day, which is already inconvenient, but on the day our room was actually supposed to be serviced, no one came. We had to call for fresh towels and toiletries. After our first call, no one showed up. Thirty minutes later, we called again and the staff answering the phone were horseplaying instead of handling the request professionally. To top it all off, we woke up to an unexpected valet charge on our bill even though we never had a car. Thankfully, one employee was very helpful and quickly resolved the valet charge. He was the highlight of our stay and deserves recognition for his excellent customer service. The hotel itself also needs significant updates. The furniture is outdated, and the pillows flatten almost immediately, making it feel like you’re sleeping without one. Overall, this stay fell far below the standards I’ve come to expect from Marriott. Between the lack of cleanliness, poor housekeeping, unprofessional service, billing error, and outdated accommodations, I would not recommend staying at this property.

I stayed at the Courtyard Portland City Center and while the room itself was comfortable and the location is convenient, my overall experience was significantly impacted by something the hotel needs to address. During my stay, I encountered a very large dog freely moving through the hotel’s common areas. I fully respect the rights of guests who rely on legitimate service animals — that is not the issue. The issue is that there was zero visible signage explaining the hotel’s service animal or pet policy — not in the lobby, not at check-in, and not on the website prior to booking. This matters more than it might seem: if animals are permitted in common areas, they are almost certainly also permitted in guest rooms. That means guests with allergies, asthma, or animal sensitivities may unknowingly be assigned a room that has previously housed a pet — with no warning, no choice, and no ability to request otherwise before booking. A clearly posted policy — both on the website and at the property — would allow guests to make informed decisions. It’s a simple, low-cost fix that respects all guests, including those who depend on service animals. The room and location are fine, but transparency should not be an afterthought.
We arrived at Courtyard by Marriott Portland City Center around 9 a.m. and were pleasantly surprised that the staff was able to accommodate an early check-in. We definitely lucked out with room availability, and I appreciated the team’s effort to get us settled in early. It gave us time to rest and recharge before heading out to explore downtown. Our room, with two queen beds, was spacious and comfortable for two guests. The beds leaned on the softer side, which made for a good night’s sleep, and the overall cleanliness met expectations. The hotel was also quiet, which added to the overall comfort of the stay. The bathroom was clean and had a spacious stall, though the only downside was the lack of a vent fan. The standout feature of this hotel is its location. It’s less than a mile from the Roseland Theater, where we caught the Testament, Overkill & Destruction show, and it’s also within easy walking distance to the waterfront, as well as plenty of food carts/pods, restaurants, breweries and bars. As for parking, the hotel only offers valet service. Since we didn’t plan on using our car, we opted for a nearby paid lot instead. It worked out well for us and ended up saving about 50% compared to the hotel’s valet rate. Overall, the staff was friendly and welcoming, and the combination of comfort, quiet atmosphere, and prime location made for a very enjoyable stay. I would definitely recommend staying here and would gladly return on a future visit to Portland to explore more of the music scene and other points of interest I didn’t get to experience during this trip.
Stayed for the location and because I love Marriott hotels but definitely didn't get friendly service. At check in I didn't receive any info about the property food options or surrounding area. The rooms also have the old connecting doors that are super thin, we could hear our neighbors cough..so whatever you do do accept a connecting room. The valet attendants were all very friendly in the morning and at night. Bathrooms were also odd because the water got everywhere outside the shower.
