Stopped in on a Friday around 4:30pm. It was just starting to get busy. We were seated immediately, greeted and asked if it was our first visit. It was so we got a quick overview from Hannah. (who was awesome!) We split a salad and got the feast for 2 (it could have fed at least another person!) Everything was tasty. The bbq sauces were pretty good too!
Great option for barbecued meat dishes. Other options are also available, but somewhat limited. Three main dining areas, including an enclosed outdoor patio when the weather is nice - which is also available during cooler temps (the fireplace is cozy). Also a bar area, and a main dining room. The food is good, and expect to pay contemporary prices. Their cornbread muffins are popular and are served before your meal. I had the fresh fish sandwich (walleye), which was tasty and filling. Full bar, serving beer, wine and spirits. Plenty of free parking and is handicapped accessible.

Im gonna start off by saying we got a family meal and literally nobody really liked it. Feed 5 people somewhat comfortably. The people that took me there boasted about how good this place was, and once they took a bite, they all turned their heads. Brisket was pretty scares for the amount we paid, and it was a unanimous bust. Quick update. The next day everyone had diarrhea Food wise everything was either overpowered by sugar or bland. Cornbread might as well be cake. So so so much sugar. Same thing for the beans and BBQ sauce. It's like.. 90% ketchup and sugar. Beans aren't horrible but it tastes like they just got a can of bushes baked beans and slapped it on a plate. Ribs had very little meat on them as if the cow was starved, as well as very bland. Chicken wasn't dry as hell which is a plus but flavor, again was very lacking. Pulled pork was a little odd. Had a bit of smokeyness to it but its like the seasoning they put on it wasnt... mixed well? I'd have some bites that were flavorful and others that were bland as hell. Coleslaw was ok about what youd expect. And by this point I gave up on the meal and didn't even try the potato salad. Service wise, it wasn't horrible. They were nice, but I asked how big the to go milk shakes were and I might as well have asked her to do brain surgery. "Uugh there about our normal.. medium size." She then proceeded to move her fingers away and twords each other to demonstrate her best guess of the size just to present me 2 inches of space between her fingers. As comicle as the interaction was, I passed on the 2 fluid ounces of 6 dollar milkshakes. Lol A far cry from what they were bragging about and even more disappointing that the people that once loved the place turned their backs to it due to a severe fall in quality and effort. Nobody bothered to finish their plates
Marlene was so hospitable, knowledgeable, and a joy to have as our server. We are driving through Toledo on our way to Detroit and happened to find Shorty’s. Great prices and food!
I sampled food from my whole group's plates. Everything was very smokey. The ribs and the chicken were fall-off-the-bone tender. My brisket was delicious but just a tad on the dry side. All the sides were pretty good too. I particularly enjoyed the potato salad. We all enjoyed the pork "spring rolls" appetizers with a terrific dipping sauce. A decent selection of beers on tap is a nice bonus. Not the best BBQ I've had, but very respectable.
