Ross Construction Firm

Unfortunately we did not have a great experience with Ross Construction. We were so excited based on our initial meetings with John, but it did not go the way any of us were hoping. Communication was not a problem, but following through on promises made continued to be time after time again. There were major gaps in coordination amongst contractors. I was given the impression that John was very close with his contractors and that upholding schedules was important, but that continued to not be the case. They also missed some pretty significant design aspects in the drawings that created big impacts to our finished products. As an example, pocket doors were designed into the space, but they missed it during installation so now we’re stuck with three sets of French doors which we don’t love for the room. We were told we would “know everyone” on site so we were comfortable with who all was working in our home. At one point John contracted someone to do the drywall who subcontracted it to someone who subcontracted it to someone else that John didn’t know. Literally. Site cleanliness was a constant problem. Trash in our yard, roof nails all over our driveway just waiting to pop a tire. The dumpster would regularly overflow with trash that was brought to our dumpster from other jobs of theirs! Finally, there were some major quality issues that we did our best to call them out on to fix. One example was the drywall, mudding and painting. They didn’t sand appropriately and then painted without primer with a paint that very much called to prime first. A second terrible example is we had some new piping run in an unconditioned area of the house to get to the new bathroom and they never insulated the piping so we’ve had no cold water for weeks at a time since the turnover as it’s been so cold and the pipes froze. They overshot their contractual schedule by 5 months and technically are still not completely done. So from my perspective Ross Construction does communicate a lot, but doesn’t come through on anything they say. Finally, I really contemplated whether or not to post this review as I’m more of a believer in just keeping quiet if I don’t have anything nice to say. However, during my contemplation I noticed with a quick search that the majority, but not all, of the “5 star reviews” that Ross construction was given was given by vendors and contractors that John works with…..not by customers. I felt like this was hugely misleading and felt compelled to give a review as an actual paying customer.
