Our wedding at the Marriott Phoenix Resort Tempe at The Buttes was absolutely incredible. The property is stunning, and the entire experience exceeded our expectations. Danielle, the Director of Catering, was wonderful, organized, responsive, and incredibly attentive. She made sure everything ran seamlessly and that we felt fully supported throughout the entire process. We also want to recognize Danny, one of the servers, who was fantastic from our initial tasting through our wedding night. His kindness and attentiveness meant so much to us. The entire resort team was warm, professional, and truly made our time there so special. We are beyond grateful and would wholeheartedly recommend this venue to any couple.
Shockingly Bad Lounge Service—Embarrassing for Marriott The room and front desk at the Marriott Phoenix Resort at the Buttes were fine. Unfortunately, the On the Rocks Lounge was such a disaster that it completely ruined the stay. Over two consecutive nights, the lounge demonstrated a total collapse of basic service. The first night, I hosted a business client. The lounge was only moderately busy and adequately staffed, yet service was slow, disorganized, and inattentive. Drinks required repeated follow ups, and appetizers took over 30 minutes with no explanation or apology. The second night was far worse—and ranks as the worst bar or lounge service I’ve experienced in nearly 30 years of frequent travel. Multiple tables were left dirty and unattended. After waiting almost ten minutes without acknowledgment, I had to bus and clean a table myself for my wife and me while staff ignored us. We ordered two simple appetizers. After 45 minutes with no update, and watching staff socialize at the bar, I asked three different employees about our order. Each promised to “check on it.” No one ever returned. Even mentioning that I’m a Lifetime Titanium Elitemember made absolutely no difference. Nearly two hours after arriving, a manager finally brought the food, claiming the ticket had “fallen behind the counter.” By then—on Valentine’s Day, no less—the evening was completely ruined. We declined the food and ordered delivery from an outside restaurant, which arrived in about 20 minutes. That contrast says everything. This is not a staffing issue—it’s a leadership and management failure. The lounge operation is completely inconsistent with Marriott standards. I will not return to this property and would strongly advise others to stay elsewhere unless dramatic changes are made.

The grounds on the property are serene and beautiful, and the views from the restaurant at the top of the hill and from certain hotel rooms are stunning. The spa and restaurant are high quality and excellent service. The rooms were showing some wear, but overall were very lovely. My only complaint would be the vending machines on the 2nd and 4th floors were all either sold out or completely off. The front desk did give us some water though. We will definitely stay here again!
Incredible service and attention to detail from the staff at Marriott. They made our staycation birthday celebration special. The Market Cafe food was abysmal for the prices but the Top of the Rock dining was phenomenal. Truly an excellent place to stay!
Rooms were slightly dated but theres so much to do outside of your room I can't imagine you're spending too much time there. Every single person I met was incredible kind, affable, and willing to help! Absolutely worth going if just for the views alone!
