A Downtown Dayton Gem: Grist Delivers an Unforgettable Dining Experience If you're looking for a dining experience that perfectly blends culinary artistry, exceptional hospitality, and an inviting atmosphere, look no further than Grist in downtown Dayton. From the moment we walked through the doors, we were captivated by the warm ambiance and the intoxicating aromas drifting from the open kitchen. There is something special about watching talented chefs at work, and Grist embraces that experience beautifully. Every detail feels intentional, creating an environment that is both sophisticated and welcoming. We started with the Rosemary & Parmesan Focaccia served with cultured butter and flaky sea salt. To call this bread phenomenal would be an understatement. The focaccia was perfectly baked with a crisp exterior, a soft and airy center, and just the right balance of rosemary and parmesan. Paired with the rich cultured butter and delicate sea salt, it set the tone for an extraordinary meal. Next came the House-Made Meatballs, served in a vibrant Calabrian tomato sauce with Parmigiano Reggiano and fresh basil. These meatballs were seasoned to perfection—tender, flavorful, and expertly crafted. The sauce provided just the right amount of heat and depth, making every bite memorable. The star of the evening, however, was undoubtedly the Raviolo al’Uovo. Filled with prosciutto and truffle, then finished with black garlic butter, 24-month Parmigiano Reggiano, aged balsamic, and chive, this dish deserves cult-classic status. The presentation was stunning, and the combination of flavors was nothing short of spectacular. Rich, savory, velvety, and perfectly balanced, it's the kind of dish that lingers in your memory long after the meal is over. Beyond the incredible food, the service was equally impressive. The chefs and staff demonstrated a remarkable attention to detail and genuine passion for hospitality. Every interaction was pleasant, professional, and welcoming, making us feel like valued guests throughout the evening. Of course, we couldn't leave without dessert—and we're glad we didn't. We took home the Tiramisu, which was absolutely to die for: light, creamy, and decadently satisfying. The S'mores Tart was equally divine, delivering a perfect finish to an already outstanding meal. Grist is doing something special in downtown Dayton. Between the stunning presentation, exceptional execution, memorable flavors, and attentive service, this restaurant earns every bit of praise. We can't wait to return and explore more of the menu. 5/5 stars – A must-visit destination for anyone who appreciates outstanding food and genuine hospitality.

This is genuinely one of the best Italian restaurants I’ve ever been to — and that’s including well-known, high-end Italian spots in Columbus. I’ve been to the Cameron Mitchell Italian restaurants, and honestly, this place is better — and also cheaper. The Scarpinocc de Manzo was absolutely incredible and easily the highlight of the meal. The braised beef and ricotta–filled pasta with bone marrow jus was rich, comforting, and perfectly balanced. It’s one of those dishes you keep thinking about after the meal, and I would come back just for that alone. The tiramisu is outstanding. I loved that it has chocolate chips mixed in — it adds a really nice texture and made it one of the best tiramisus I’ve had. The rosemary & parmesan focaccia was also amazing. We ordered the full size for the table (pictured), and it was more than enough for four people, making it perfect for sharing. We also tried the burrata. While it wasn’t my personal favorite, that’s more of a preference thing — I tend to like a more traditional burrata. That said, it was still well executed and thoughtfully composed. One thing to note: reservations are highly recommended. This isn’t really a walk-in spot, but it’s absolutely worth planning ahead. Overall, the quality, flavor, and value here are exceptional. Easily one of my favorite Italian restaurants, and I’ll definitely be back.
This place is a must try if you want fresh authentic Italian food. We wanted something different gor lunch and decided to give this place a try. We went outside the box and ordered the Tortelli Di Zucca which was amazing, Pappardelle Alla Agnello Brasato and the lamb was so tender and flavorful it was the best lamb I have ever tasted and lastly the spinach and chicory salad. All dishes were so good we will definitely be back.
The pasta is incredible! The atmosphere is very welcoming and fresh. The staff is incredibly kind and genuine. I have enjoyed lunch at Grist with the pasta dishes and desserts! The cookies are out of this world!Every detail is thoughtful, tasty, and beautiful! I highly recommend the food and experience!
WOW! Best dining experience in Dayton, hands down. The staff, including Chef Sal and the hostess were incredibly friendly and attentive, and the meal was incredible. I felt as though pricing was fair for the handmade, high quality, and delicious options. I enjoyed the seafood pasta, coffee, and tarte for lunch. I am still dreaming about the flavors. It was a memorable experience that made me leave with a smile. Will be returning, and recommending to friends and family. Thank you Grist!
