The Shinola hotel has some of the best customer service that I have ever encountered. Every member of the staff made me feel right at home. The location is perfect, walking distance to shops and restaurants. The rooms are comfortable and cozy. I slept like a baby. One of the highlights of my trip was a high-profile celebrity staying at the hotel during my visit, which made it such a cool experience.
Best hotel in Detroit especially when paired with Amex FHR perks. Second time staying here and I feel like they have upped their game in the service department. I didn’t have too many interactions with staff, but the few I did they were all warm and professional. Shoutout to Latonya, front desk supervisor who checked us in at 9pm at night - very friendly. We are locals to the metro Detroit area and this is now our hotel of choice for our staycations in Detroit. Perfect location for walking around.

Jalauni and I’yana at the front desk were fantastic and bellman Terrence helped us get our cool Shinola bikes ready for a great city ride. The bikes were a really nice feature and were gratis. The hotel is super nice with excellent restaurant and bar offerings, nice rooms and a well-equipped gym. The staff were all very friendly and eager to assist. We’d definitely stay in the hotel again.
The Shinola hotel is a prime example of a "hotel catfish" as the pictures online displayed a beautiful establishment and stay; yet I was met with a experience that would not be a good deal for $150 a night. The staff was kind and got me checked in with ease, asking if I needed anything to drink while they checked on my room and with housekeeping. As they checked on my room, I realized how small the lobby was (granted we are in the city, so I should have expected a cramped experience I suppose). The room will be better, I hoped. Once everything was okay'd, I went to my room and once again... cramped. The TV in the room was uncooperative with my Amazon Fire device and when I tried using the Chromecast option, the QR code that led to their website never loaded even though their wifi was working perfectly. I then realized that our room, facing the outside of the building, was very loud with music playing from cars. I had low hopes that the sound would die down by the time I needed to sleep. Lastly, the room was dusty. Along the lining of the walls was a thick coat of dust and there was trash underneath the couch that was visible from the bed. If housekeeping was cleaning putting the finishing touches on my room, I could not tell. Overall, if I am going to be paying +$500 a night for a 4 star hotel, I expect it to be a 4 star stay and not a, "well this is okay for $150 a night, I guess"
The Shinola Hotel is truly the place to stay when visiting Detroit. Perfectly situated in the heart of the city, it offers immediate access to some of the best dining, culture, and energy Detroit has to offer. What sets it apart, though, is the exceptional level of service. From the moment you arrive, the staff is warm, attentive, and committed to creating a seamless experience. I had a time sensitive request to print an important document, and Jalauni at the front desk handled it with professionalism and genuine care. Not only was it completed quickly, but they also thoughtfully provided a folder to keep everything organized. That extra attention to detail made a lasting impression. The room itself was equally impressive. Comfortable, well appointed, and designed with intention, down to the quality of the mattress. Every detail throughout the hotel reflects a standard of excellence. Shinola Hotel delivers an experience that feels both elevated and welcoming, and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Detroit.
