Wow! Incredible displays, artifacts, and atmosphere! I cannot say enough about this place. It was our first visit, kids are free which is amazing, thanks to a grant , I believe. The attention to detail and in-depth information is educational for all ages. Tells a beautiful story of the historical significance of The Pittsburgh area. If you are local, tourist, or a now-distant native...it will remind you how great this area is!
This history center was at the top of our list for places to visit in Pittsburgh and it didn't disappoint. It contains a large variety of historical visits covering transportation, industrial technology (to include glass production), early North America, art, pop culture , and children's education with incredible Fred Rogers artifacts. The museum is well maintained with an easy-to-navigate layout, and friendly staff. Plenty of paid parking right out front ($20 for up to 12 hours with staff on-site), and nice outdoor area on the top floor of the museum adjoining to a large, indoor banquet room.

I definitely recommend this place. It took us nearly 2 hours to walk the whole place We really enjoyed this museum in Pittsburgh. 6 Floors of exhibits. Some were interactive. Great family fun for all ages. My Favorite part was the Sports Museum inside. A complete look back at Pittsburgh sports from High School to the Pros. It was packed with memorabilia from different High Schools, the Steelers, the Penguins, and the Pirates whiich was cool to see. The museum also has an African American history section. A Heinz Company history section. Historic Artifacts that were donated from different families, including clothes, flatware, furniture. We went on a Wednesday in June right when it open at 10am. It wasn't that busy. Paid 10 bucks for parking in a surface lot just across from the entrance.
It was a fantastic museum to check out. It has so much history about the people and the industry of Pittsburgh. We planned on seeing it in 2 hours and we probably only got to see 2/3 of it. We could have easily have spent another 2 hours here. I would highly recommend 4 hours. It was not busy at all and it was very easy to take your time and look at everything. I cannot wait to go back and see the rest of it.
Probably the best history museum we’ve ever taken our kids to. Affordable prices and plenty for the kids to do throughout the museum many exhibits are interactive. We even got to throw a bow from an ice age weapon! My kids from 11months, 3 years old, 6, and 11 all really enjoyed it!
