Stayed here for the R&B tour. All the workers we encountered were nice from the front desk to the shuttle bus driver. Which came in handy having the free shuttle take us to the corner of Clifford & Elizabeth W. So we didn't have to walk the 15 minutes to Ford Field from the hotel! So appreciative!! We didn't have time to visit the casino but it was definitely busy. They have the food court area open late/after hours that's real convenient for late night eats onsite & it has good food options (buffalo wings, burgers, pizza, etc.) Our Deluxe King room/ bed & bathroom was clean with a comfortablec with living space/ table area. The only thing I didn't like was that the coffee maker was DIRTY! Who knows how often they get checked or cleaned but the water was cloudy & nasty looking. I didn't have time to complain since we had to get ready & to our show. I also feared that they might just unplug another dirty one & bring it as a replacement instead of a new or truly clean one, so I didn't want to take my chances... Please have the staff thoroughly clean/ check the coffee makers! That was a disappointment.
I had an encounter with MotorCity Casino, inside-casino-entrance guards, that embarrassed, traumatized and ruined my whole experience there as a guest. I had a comp. room on 7/24/2026. I brought a drink from the bar and was enjoying walking around checking out all that this casino had to offer when I was publicly chastised TWICE (in different locations and times) publicly for walking around with a drink in my hand. The first time wasn't as embarrassing as the second time. The second time the security guard loud talked me and SHUSHED ME AS HE APPROACHED AS IF HE WAS GOING TO PUT HANDS ON ME UNTIL ANOTHER STAFF MEMBER STOPPED HIM (THIS OTHER STAFF MEMBER WASN'T IN A SECURITY GUARD UNIFORM BUT HE WAS WEARING ANOTHER TYPE OF UNIFORM THAT SHOWED HE WAS STAFF) WHEN HE SPOKE THE UNIFORMED SECURITY OBEYED. This different staff member approached me and quietly explained the policy, and rules about having a drink while walking in this casino. He also stated that HE was going to allow me to pass on thru with my drink despite what the original MEAN guard had said. I felt embarrassed and singled out all because I was alone and the staff wanted something to do other than routine choirs so I was their project for the night. They mistreated me and NOTHING would happen from this incident! I didn't go there to feel like a criminal and be treated in a public embarrassment type way! THE SECURITY STAFF PUBLICLY EMBARRASSED ME AND I IMAGINE THIS HAPPENS EVERY DAY TO SOMEONE WHO GOES THERE FOR FUN BUT RUNS INTO THE BORED SECURITY STAFF MEMBERS WHO DECIDE TO HAVE FUN AT THE EXPENSE OF A PATRIOT OF THE CASINO/ HOTEL!

Dissappinted. Room was fine. But not what youd expect for the price! Bathroom floor was gross in corners. Shower had no water pressure. Bedding was stained, black and gray marks all over. pillows were very used and lumpy. No extra blanket(but I didnt ask) and no signs. Anywhere. To tell you where stuff is. Not even a place to actually sit down and eat. Just a food court with 2 things. And the casino was nothing like soaring eagle or little river. Closed in. No windows low low ceilings. And loud. Feels like a basement. Overall if you stay here. Dont expect to do anything other than gamble or be in your room alone. Too bad there wasn't a place to sit or at least windows to outside. Very weird architecture. Oh and no easily accessible bar. Or a spot to sit amd have your drink. Hard to find a bar, and when we did it was slow slow slow. Oh well. We won't be back.
Fantastic stay with truly exceptional management! I spent two nights here with my family, and I cannot say enough good things about the management team. They went completely above and beyond to help us handle a lost passport, truly restoring my faith in humanity. Beyond the incredible service, the hotel itself was great, our room was fantastic, and the location is highly convenient. I definitely know exactly where we’ll be staying next time we’re in Detroit
Walking into MotorCity Hotel was a shock, and not in a good way. The photos online are extremely deceiving. What you see advertised is not what you get. The moment we stepped off the elevator, the entire place gave off old Las Vegas vibes—worn, dated, and neglected. Our first room set the tone. The hallway carpet was worn and dirty, and the room wasn’t any better. The carpet had visible stains, the two chairs in the room were covered in marks as if they had never been cleaned or steamed, and even the leather desk chair had stains. The headboard was stained as well. Dust and dirt were visible around the fixtures and along the floor. It was honestly shocking. We requested another room, hoping for better, but the second room had the same issues. We went back downstairs, and the front desk—who I will say were very kind—gave us a room on the 5th floor. The hallway carpet there looked a little better, but once inside the third room, it was clear the same problems existed. At that point, we asked housekeeping for towels and cleaning supplies so we could wipe down what we could just to get by. To make matters worse, the sheets were worn and had small holes. The hotel’s location didn’t help either. While waiting for our Uber, there were people hanging around outside, including young men openly smoking marijuana. It didn’t feel like a comfortable or safe environment. Unfortunately, because of multiple conferences in town, we weren’t able to switch hotels. The hotel did give us a $50 credit, which was a nice gesture, but it doesn’t make up for having to stay four nights in a place where I’m laying towels on the floor just so I don’t have to touch the carpet. It’s really sad that the website photos don’t reflect the true condition of this hotel. Even locals frown when you mention it. I’m hoping the next few days go by quickly.
