I would like to thank Chef Carlos Garza for an outstanding experience at his chefs table, he made a menu just for us because my wife don’t eat beef and it was amazing. The service was a 10 out of 10 and we enjoyed the experience. This was our Anniversary night and he went out his way to make it special for us again Thankyou, so if your looking for a great food Experience come here.
This restaurant has been around Chicago for about 20 years and after revisiting recently I remember why lol I hadn’t been here in about 10 years, even though I pass it all the time and I recently got to check the place out with one of my girls; we had like a girls dinner date night out. It was all the vibes and more! I highly recommend the cotton candy drink – they’re famous for it, and everyone loves it, but every single drink that we had was really good. Appetizers were great as well – we tried the coconut shrimp and the Jalea platter, which was a few different fried seafood and yucca. The main courses were great as well. I had the breaded chicken with the fried egg and my girl had the steak. We loved our food and the desserts. Oh my goodness the coconut cream cake was delicious, but my friend got the butter, pecan toffee cake and it came with dulce de leche ice cream on top. It was warm and just wow. I want to go back just for that. And of course, the decor in here is just always so inviting it makes you feel like you’ve transported out of Chicago just for a little bit. Definitely can’t wait until my next visit!

Carnivale is a colorful and lively Spanish fusion restaurant that serves up delicious Spanish and Portuguese cuisine in a lively colorful hall with high ceilings and rustic furniture and beautiful and sensual artwork all over the walls. The lighting and ambiance in the main dining room are reminiscent of jazz clubs in the 40s and 50s. The entire restaurant is adorned with colorful decor of every color of the rainbow. For appetizers we had the combo of fried calamari, fish and yuca. It was on a bed of salad and with sweet pickled jalapeños. It would have been a perfect appetizer but they did not put much calamari to share. We also had the lamb empanadas which were on the smaller side but super tasty and the pastry was nice and buttery and flakey. For main course we had the rack of lamb chops, seafood paella and braised short rib. The seafood paella was good but felt like it was short on the shrimp a bit and muscles were small. The rice was good and tomato heavy flavor.. It was not my favorite but portion was good. The braised short rib with grits which was perfectly flavored and tasty. The pickled mushrooms on top were not necessary but added a pop of flavor to cut the richness of the succulent tender beef. Highly recommend this dish. The rack of lambs was tasty but one of the lamb chops were a bit chewed up and small like a tiny piece of meet hanging from the bone. They did a good job to replace the chop for us. Their signature Old Fashioned was pretty good but these days with every old fashioned south of Division Street being $20, they better be good. I didnt try the desserts yet but will next time. *There is a 3% surcharge added to your check automatically *This restaurant has a large Halal selection for those who only eat Halal. *only complaint I want to mention for management: Our server Melanie was nice and sweet at first but then after a mishap she disappeared for a long time and it seem like she gave up on service.. she also forgot to introduce herself to us.. I only knew her name because of the receipt. I believe management can do a better job in training these servers to not give up on service halfway through the dinner and to also introduce themselves and try and connect with the diners more instead of be robotic. I usually never have any complaints about servers but her service was not worth the tips we gave her both in cash and electronically.
Food was delicious! The meat was tender And juicy . I loved it so much , will be coming back for sure. Our server was Melanie she was such a sweetie 🫶
Amazing experience! Visited for my birthday dinner. The ambiance is so colorful. Feels like being away vacation. From the hosts/ hostess' to Laura our server, to Chef Carlos, to wait staff, a time was had. Laura ensured that our needs were properly met. She checked in with us frequently. Laura's customer servwas exceptional. Chef Carlos visited us. He explained many of the dishes. He was very interpersonal and enhanced our experience. Order multiple Camprihanas and
