We hired Remark to complete a walkout basement buildout comprised of a full kitchen, bedroom/walk-in closet, family room and home gym. We are super pleased with the end result and are really enjoying the finished product! The crew was here punctually early every morning, including some weekends, to get the job finished timely. They went out of their way to make us happy and came within the initial budget as promised.
We recently had Remark Construction finish our basement, and the experience was top-tier. Our project manager, Brandon, was on-site daily and kept everything incredibly clean—which is a miracle for a construction zone. If you need a general contractor in Fairfield who actually communicates and sticks to a timeline, Chris and his team are the ones to call.

We just had our deck completed by Remark. It is fantastic, exactly what we asked for. It’s not only beautiful, but sturdy. The construction crew including Josh and Juli were very hard working and gave us construction updates everyday. The communication was so helpful. I would definitely use them for other projects!
The team at Remark Construction is amazing. We added an addition to our house and it was such a pleasure to work with the entire team start to finish. When issues on the project came up (and there are ALWAY issues with construction project), the suggestions and problem solving were top notch. The addition is beautiful and better than imagined. Shout out to Rob who I cannot thank enough for his mad skills on this project. When I can tolerate more construction/remodeling, Remark Construction will be who I call. 10 out 10.
Project Finish 1,200 sq ft of basement including full bath with rough in, wet bar, great room, kid’s playroom, bedroom with egress window, and permits. Overall Rating: 3 stars Quoting and Selections: 5 stars Quoting process was detailed and flexible. They provided some good design improvements. Professionalism and Communication: 3 stars • The project supervisor and sales manager were professional except when attempting to install an unapproved substitute tile. • Subcontractors and employees were punctual and polite. • Front door was left open on a 35°F day with no one home. • Permit inspections held before all relevant work completed. • Would not share material costs for flooring, doors, and ceiling tiles prior to installation. Workmanship and Quality: 3 stars Subcontracted work (drop ceiling, countertops, bathroom tile) was excellent. In-house cabinetry and carpet installation were high quality. The initial painter did great work, but later painting did not match that standard. Issues within Remark’s standards and not corrected: • Inconsistent HVAC register (3 styles) and switches (6 styles) types. • Walls out of plumb up to ¾”. • Used R-11 insulation instead contracted R-12. • Drilled holes for electric within bottom ¼” of ceiling joists. • Insulation not installed next to egress window along foundation. • Backup sump pump improperly installed (50% flow). • One door frame was installed ¼” out of plumb/square. • Undersized bathroom electric switch box. • Romex lying on drop ceiling frame. Issues discovered later (no warranty request made): • Improper or missing electrical grounds on electrical receptacles, switches, and circuit. • Shower door shims not installed per instructions, causing shifting. Some remedied issues after request: • Missing structural steel lintel for egress window • Panel wiring error (upstairs neutral/ground disconnects). • All home smoke detectors disconnected from AC power for 5 months and not initially interconnected. • Romex run with low voltage wiring. • Original electric receptacle and sink values left behind new walls. • LVP flooring installed 3 times due to movement/damage. • After framing inspection, used untreated lumber on concrete • Unsecured/damaged framing studs. • Romex routed through upstairs closet. • Sump Alarm float was not mounted. • Barn door track not installed per directions with 3 sets of holes in barn door. Trim piece to hide mistakes doesn’t match (not corrected). • Baseboard corners not square. • Missing door knob locks. Installed a screw instead of lock pin. • Wet bar switches/outlets at inconsistent heights. Timeline: 2 stars Original estimate: 8 weeks (12 weeks expected due to long-lead item). Actual completion: 29 weeks. Work progressed quickly until 3rd 30% payment, then slowed significantly with 10% due. Budget: 2 stars Final invoice was $9,090 over our material calculation. After discussion, they reduced it to $418 above our total because $8,670 couldn’t be explained. We also believed a shower door was included since the quote stated “Remark will supply and install all finishes required to complete the full bathroom concept envisioned by homeowner” and they directed us to their shower door supplier. Customer Service and Follow-up: 4 stars Customer service was responsive, and most concerns were addressed. However, the number of issues requiring homeowner oversight made the project more stressful than expected. Overall Recommendation: 3 stars The finished basement looks good, and quality reached an acceptable level with daily homeowner involvement. However, I expected the general contractor to manage quality and communication more closely. Given their above-average pricing, strong reviews, and references, I anticipated higher initial quality control. Their willingness to correct most issues is a strength. Overall, acceptable—but not the five-star experience expected.
