Provider cancelled after a year wait, then told me to wait another year… I’m sharing this to help others set expectations and to encourage the clinic to address what feels like a serious access issue. October 2024 I scheduled a new patient appointment with Dr. Tara Heeney at The Portland Clinic for January 20, 2026. I was surprised that the wait was over a year, but I understand that primary care providers are overworked, so I accepted it and planned accordingly. On the morning of my appointment, I received a call informing me that the visit was being canceled because Dr. Heeney was out sick. That part is understandable- providers are human. What was not reasonable was what followed. When I asked about rescheduling, I was told the next available appointment was February 2027- more than another year away. There was no flexibility offered, no alternative provider suggested, and no attempt to prioritize patients whose appointments were canceled by the clinic after already waiting over a year. If a clinic cannot reasonably accommodate patients it cancels on, especially new patients who have waited this long, it raises serious concerns about capacity and responsibility. At that point, continuing to accept new patients feels irresponsible. I didn’t make a back up appointment with a different provider, but based on other reviews of this clinic, looks like that wouldn’t have be a bad idea. I hope The Portland Clinic takes a hard look at scheduling practices, cancellation protocols, and patient access. A canceled appointment after a year-long wait should come with meaningful options - not another year in limbo. Anyone else have this experience or a provider they’d love to recommend?

My Gyno Dr Jung was amazing, I really enjoyed her! However, I called yesterday 2/24/26 to make an appointment with her to learn she is retired. I was sad, but no big deal I ask to schedule with another gyno. The scheduler asked my symptoms and seemed concerned, she said she would get a note to the doctor right away and they would call me back same day, 2/24. I called at 8:00am. I waited til about 3pm for that call back and still hadn’t received one. So I tried calling back only to be told in short by a recorded line that they were too busy to take my call and to call back later. No option to even leave a message. Well no one called me back so I ended up going to urgent care that night. Well urgent care said you need to see your gyno immediately. Today. I said I called and can’t get through. My urgent care provider tried calling, she wasn’t able to reach anyone. Again, no option to leave a message. She said since we can’t get through I have to go to the ER because I needed to be seen immediately. So I was treated at the ER last night. I will have a huge bill that could have been avoided had someone even just called me back or picked up the phone. I am super frustrated with this whole event. I am still waiting on a call back this morning to schedule a follow up visit for the minor surgery the ER had to provide.
Stacy Rudy, PA, is fantastic! She’s smart, caring, listens to her patients, and makes sure all of my questions are thoroughly and thoughtfully answered. She has a wonderful staff of nurses who are very friendly and caring.
Had a wonderful experience/appointment with Dr Palla yesterday. Her “bedside manner” is excellent. A very warm and caring professional.
I have been going to the Portland Clinic for many years. I appreciate the compassion and support I’ve felt there while being treated for routine issues as well as health challenges. When you are facing an illness or medical condition, you feel alone. But knowing that everyone at the Portland Clinic is doing their best for you, it’s a lot easier to face whatever comes up.
