We stayed at the Hotel Figueroa as a couple for a little getaway in LA before a wedding in San Diego the following weekend. We picked a suite for space to lounge between adventures through a busy week, and were so happy we chose the Fig! The staff welcomed us with a couple little surprises, and truly went above and beyond. I don't want to spoil it by mentioning what they were, but they were nice gestures that made the trip extra special. The DTLA location is convenient to most metro lines, between the 7th St and Pico stations, and is central in the LA region, making it easy for us to explore from the beaches to East LA. The room and bathroom were spacious and we appreciated the decor -- comfortable and attractive. It has a bit of a unique charm and style. The views, pool, lobby, and room all exceeded expectations. There is complimentary coffee in the lobby each morning, so we didn't have to use the in-room coffeemaker, although that convenience along with a mini fridge are provided. The housekeeping took great care of the details. I am a bit particular when choosing hotels, and the Fig did just about everything right. It was just such a treat, and a great value for the room rate (booking directly through their website). And again, as nice as the hotel is, it was even better thanks to the staff who made us feel happily at ease at every point during our stay. I absolutely recommend the Hotel Figueroa!
I'm very familiar with LA and I would not stay at this hotel again. I stayed here for a professional development conference and was blindsided to discover, weeks later while completing my expense report, that more than $500 had been charged to my corporate credit card as a smoking/vaping fee. I understand these charges are often assessed after checkout, but there was no communication explaining the charge or giving me an opportunity to address it before it appeared on my card. I did not smoke or vape in my room. When I called the hotel, the first employee I spoke with mentioned that the detectors are very sensitive, but she was unable to assist and transferred me to management. I left a detailed voicemail explaining the situation and never received a return call. Looking back, I suspect the charge may have been triggered when I used my personal clothes steamer. The room was very small and did not have a desk. The closet had a conveniently located electrical outlet, which made it practical to set up the hotel's ironing board just outside the closet to steam and hang my clothing. I remember noticing a smoke detector nearby with a blinking light. I shared these details in my voicemail, but no one followed up. Beyond the disputed charge, I was disappointed with the overall experience. The room was extremely small, I didn't get to enjoy the pool after getting back from the convention because it closes at 7:00 PM (May in Los Angeles), and it had no food/drink service (outside restaurant is only open for paid events). Also, the room amenities did not match what I would expect from an four-star hotel at this price point. I was also underwhelmed by the location. While the hotel is close to the convention center, I found myself doing a significant amount of walking through and around LA Live just to get to and from my room. In addition, there were often men loitering outside the hotel and throughout the surrounding area, which made the walk less comfortable than I expected, especially in the evenings. I had only been in the area after major events and this was not as apparent until the crowed is gone. If you're considering this hotel for more than a night stay, primarily because of its proximity to the convention center, I would recommend looking at other options nearby. In hindsight, I would have preferred staying at a nicer hotel in a location where I felt more comfortable and simply taking a short Uber ride to be dropped off directly at the convention center. Ultimately, my biggest concern was the hotel's handling of a significant charge that I believe was applied in error. The lack of communication and failure to respond to my concerns left me feeling ignored. For that reason, I cannot recommend Hotel Figueroa and will choose a different hotel for future business travel.

Café Fig, the hotel's restaurant, was a highlight. Breakfast options included burritos and pancakes, both genuinely good. Staff throughout the stay were consistently kind and helpful. My main complaint: humidity in my room stayed above 90% for most of my stay. The AC was cooling the room fine, but doing nothing to dehumidify it. I raised this with staff, and they immediately sent someone to have a look, who told me it was working as intended since the room was cool and there was nothing to be done. During the stay I developed a large, inflamed bump on my cheek that had me a little worried, but it faded within a day or two of getting home. It's hard to say for certain, but the constant dampness seems like a plausible contributing factor. Again, I am not sure if this happens to all rooms, maybe it was luck. A few other notes: the building shows its age, and one elevator was out of order during part of my stay. The gym is on the smaller side. Location-wise, this is a great choice if you're attending anything at the LA Convention Center.
Nice location, and getting there and parking were convenient. Only valet parking available, which costs $65 per day! The hotel has no real lobby, features a modern Spanish style, and retains some original charm. Did not eat. The outdoor pool was charming, with nice furniture and fire tables. So, pros—great service, the bed and linens were amazing, and there were good coffee machines! Cons—rooms were small, outside noise was overwhelming, and the wind kept blowing the curtains! A huge billboard outside let in lots of light at night, and the bathroom had terrible lighting. Great for adults but would not recommend for families.
I recently had my first stay at Hotel Figueroa in DTLA and was honestly so pleasantly surprised. I’m usually a Marriott or Hilton loyalist, but I booked this because it was closer to a partner’s office for a meeting. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it really delivered. The vibe is a cool mix of modern and historic. They use incandescent bulbs everywhere, which makes the whole place feel super cozy—and honestly, a little eerie in a cool way lol. The hotel is fully renovated, and the restaurant/bar downstairs is a great spot to just lounge and hang out. The food was solid, too; I can’t remember the exact name of the dish, but the fresh tuna is a must-try. The rooms have high ceilings and a custom feel to them—you can definitely tell an interior designer was involved because it’s not your typical, cookie-cutter hotel room. I especially loved the bathroom; the modern design with the rain shower and handheld spray was a huge plus. Staff-wise, everyone was incredibly friendly, including the bell staff. I was a little worried about the location being in downtown, but I didn’t see a single homeless person outside the hotel, which was a relief. I’d definitely recommend this spot and will be staying here again.
