Cleveland Public Square

The 2016 redesign really paid off. No cars cutting through the middle anymore, just wide pedestrian paths, a big lawn area perfect for sitting or a quick picnic, and plenty of benches. The splash pad was off (makes sense for a cool day), but the space still felt inviting and well-maintained. Free WiFi worked fine, and there’s a hospitality kiosk if you need maps or info. I really enjoyed walking around the historic monuments — the **Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument** is impressive up close, and the statues of Moses Cleaveland and Tom L. Johnson add nice character. The mix of old architecture (like the beautiful Old Stone Church) with modern towers around the square creates a cool contrast. Terminal Tower and the casino right there make it feel like the true center of the city. Atmosphere-wise, it was peaceful during my visit. A few office folks on lunch breaks, some people passing through, but nothing crowded. It’s clean, has good police presence during the day, and felt safe. Grabbed a coffee from the on-site café and just sat on the grass people-watching for a bit — simple but really pleasant. **Pros:** - Super central location — easy starting point for exploring downtown - Nice green space in an urban setting - Historic feel without being stuffy - Clean and walkable **Cons:** - Can feel a little quiet/empty on non-event days - Limited food options right in the square (though plenty nearby) - Seasonal features like the splash pad aren’t always available Overall, it’s a solid civic park that does its job well. Not a destination you’d drive hours for on its own, but definitely worth stopping by if you’re already downtown. Great for a short break, photos, or just soaking in a bit of Cleveland history in a relaxed way. Would visit again on a future trip. Recommended for anyone wandering the city center.
